Stories from the Heart

When I was growing up, my father traveled all over the country on behalf of the company he worked for, but when he was home, he settled into being the person he had always wanted to be: a calligrapher. He never received formal training, but he just loved to sit at his writing table and do what he called "dabble" with the ink. He had a collection of pens---each different from the other in some way. And ink? At least half a dozen jars. If I walked into his "writing room" when he was getting ready to write, he turned to me (I was about 5 or 6), put a finger over his closed lips, pointed to my chair---about five feet from him---and said, "Sh-h-h-h. You must be silent when I write so I can hear the letters speak to me." Then he smiled very gently as I sat in my chair and he turned to his writing table.

I never let out a peep, but I was mesmerized as I watched him form words on the paper. It was like seeing pens giving birth to words, sentences, and thoughts that lived inside of them---and I so badly wanted to hear the letters speak---but I never did, no matter how quiet I was or how hard I listened. But sometimes, as my father moved his pen, he got one of "those expressions" on
his face---I know he was listening to the letters.

When I asked him what I had to do in order to hear the letters speak, he told me that God had given him the special gift of having the letters whisper to him as he wrote because "God loves the letters and when he sees people who love them too, He allows them to communicate with each other."

He usually wrote in the early morning---and yet he never considered it odd that within minutes after he began to focus and design the words, a little speckled brown wren sat outside on the branch of a tree next to the window and chattered her head off. When I called it "chatter," my father said, "No, it is not chatter for a wren; it is her song, and each of us sings a different song. This one is hers. She is called a Winter Wren, and is quite a special bird." I didn't ask why---but I knew my father knew, and that was enough.

All of this is background leading up to today. I'll turn 40 soon---a long time from my early childhood!---with many life experiences between then and now. Earlier this year I was intrigued when I saw both your books and bought them on the spot. I never felt I had been given the gifts my father had; I even had a terrible time in penmanship class! But there was a part of me who still wanted to know what the letters had to say. My thought when I saw your books: "There's hope!" It wasn't about changing my life, it was about finding an alphabet that had letters I could imitate, and if I could do that, then they would speak to me! When I opened one of your books to see what your alphabet looked like, it felt friendly...so I began.

I was surprised to see how natural your letters felt as I formed them---really surprised! I actually found myself writing lines of certain letters even when it wasn't during my usual "practice time." It was relaxing and pleasurable. The letters may not "whisper to me," but they speak to me in a different way, not with words, but with heart feelings. They soothe me and put me at peace with a warm smile.

Has my life changed? You bet it has. I'm a week into my fourth 40-day cycle in which I've been writing a line of the er ligature with my other letters, each day. I've been offered the job of a lifetime doing what I had only dreamed of as a profession, a house I've loved forever was just reduced in price significantly and now fits within my budget, and for the first time in my life---I'm in love. And what is the profession of my new beau? He is a graphic artist and specializes in---you got it: calligraphy! We met at a conference where calligraphy was on display, and he was standing next to me looking at the same piece I was. I made a comment about the letter A on that calligraphed piece, and mentioned your Star A that I wrote every morning---and how I preferred it over the "artistic" one. He was impressed, wanted to know more...and our relationship began to bloom right there on the spot. All because of the Alphabet!

And yes, now we both write together each morning-using, of course, your Alphabet. Although we usually write in silence, now and again he'll softly comment on what he calls "the sacred flow" of the strokes. No need to go on here, but I thought you'd really enjoy hearing about how your Alphabet brought us together. Thank you! Thank you!

What is the Vimala Alphabet  Vimala Rodgers

After years of study and research, Vimala Rodgers developed The Vimala Alphabet. Each letter shape is designed specifically to bring your hidden talents and abilities to life. As you begin to adopt self-affirming writing patterns, you naturally release those that are self-limiting, and at the same time you reconfigure the neurological patterns in your brain. This process is invaluable for people who are determined to let go of the past and stride ahead fully expressed in life. In scientific circles it is called neuroplasticity or cortical remapping.  All it takes is pen and paper

Does it work? You bet it does! --- every time. Pick up your pen and experience it for yourself.

How to Begin

If you are among the courageous visionaries who want to transform their lives through the Vimala Alphabet technology, choose at least 3 letters:

  • The first letter is the initial of your first name - not nickname, but your real birth first name. If you adopted a new first name after your 35th birthday, use that as your first name. By writing this letter, you will experience profound personal changes.
  • The second letter is the Letter of the Week.
  • The third letter is one you have chosen in order to bring about a specific transformation in your life.  Choose a letter from the Vimala Alphabet Guidebook.

Follow these steps:

  1. Write at least 3 lines of upper and lowercase letters.
  2. Write on unlined paper in the landscape direction.
  3. No pencils, please. Use a pen.
  4. Begin by writing once, at the top of the page, the Declaration of Intent of the initial of your first name.
  5. Write the first and third letters for at least 40 consecutive days. If you skip a day, start over. 40 is the number of transformation; it takes 40 days for the neurons in the brain to realign themselves, which is what the process of adopting self-affirming handwriting patterns does.
Aspects of the Letters

Just as you have gifts unique to who you are, so does each letter. I call them "aspects." I'd like to begin our new venture by sharing one of those aspects, perhaps the most important one of all: the Guardian Protector.

Through the years I've studied hundreds of traditions throughout the world, and have found that within each one, there are such beings that we call called "angels" in English, yet are called by a different name in many traditions: devas in the scriptures of India, Al-Malaikah in the Qur'an of Islam, Malakh in the Hebrew Bible--and on and on throughout the world. To avoid religious distinctions, I call each one a Guardian Protector, because that is their role.

Trust me. They are as alive and attentive as you and I--just invisible, that's all--but fully present nonetheless. Create a conversation with them--then you will know. As with everything I teach, I insist that you do not believe what I say. To know in your heart of hearts that what I say is true, I suggest that you experience it by adopting suggested writing habits, along with applying the aspects of each letter, especially that of the Guardian Protector.

Letter of the Week - B
The Letter Bb stands tall, expressing the attitudes you exhibit through your position in the world, whether it be at home or in a business setting. The "I am " stroke makes a clear declaration about who you are. The double arcs represent respect. In the language of the alphabetician they are called "arcs of respect": the top one, self-respect; the bottom one, respect for others. Combined, they represent value-based integrity focused on both yourself and others. No hidden agendas. No clandestine motives. The intent of the Letter Bb is to make sure everyone is heard and all positions honored. Its goal? A win-win relationship.

Declaration of Intent: I treat others as I would like them to treat me.

Guardian Protector: Zadkiel (ZAHD-kee-el)---the angel of prayer.

Ah, sweet Zadkiel. Although she is recognized as the angel of prayer, she is far more than that. When soul-based intent is foremost and you are on the edge of making a decision that will create a "win-win" solution-and you don't quite see how---she'll be right there with you. Of course you want to earn a substantial living, but not at the expense of others; in your heart of hearts you want to be fair. In matters of business, Zadkiel is stalwart. When she sees that your intentions are pure, she paves a direct pathway to the Child of God you are, for that is where you will find clear guidance. When you call to her, solutions may come to you "out of the blue" as it were---solutions that work fairly and amicably for all concerned, often eliciting a comment such as "How did you ever think of that?!"

How to inscribe this letterBb

Uppercase: Inscribe a firmly drawn "I am" stroke. Pick up the pen. Draw two rightward arcs, with the top one smaller than the bottom. Make sure the bottom arc closes the letter at the baseline before it creates the forward loop.

Caveat: As you form them, make sure a loop does not join the two arcs.

Lowercase: Same as the uppercase, but without the top arc.

High Flying Loops!
Some time ago our Newsletter Angel explained why the lower loops when we write become "high flying" loops in the newsletter. In case you weren't here at the time, let me explain, as simply as I can with my minimal electronic knowledge:

The formatting we use won't allow the loops to 'settle down' where they belong, especially when they
appear on a mobile device...and we know of no other program that will.

If these misplaced loops still bother you, you might want to do this: Practice writing lines of the Letter Ss(patience), the gh Ligature (non-resistance), and the Letter Zz (gentle acceptance of what is). You might also include a few lines of the initial of your first name, because that one letter holds within it your greatest opportunity for spiritual growth---a curriculum in itself, as it were.

Sursum et pergite! (Upward and onward!)

Please Join Us

Last year, several "Handwriters for Peace" members requested, and we formed, an Alphabetical Prayer Circle through which members could ask for specific prayers in emergency situations and we would hold both those intentions with our own intentions in our prayers.

Because it's time to expand the Circle, I'm inviting you to join us. There is no need to become a Handwriter for Peace, nor do you have to give me your name, only your e-mail address, as I send all Prayer Circle Emails as BCCs. If you choose to join us, please send an e-mail to vimala@vimalarodgers.com with PRAYER CIRCLE in the Subject Box and this message: I'd like to join your Alphabetical Prayer Circle.

To strengthen our intentions, each day we agree to spend a precious 10 seconds once---or many times a day---offering our Alphabetical Healing Prayer:

Fill each of us with Your Healing Light:
those of us in this Prayer Circle,
all those we love,
and all those we have difficulty loving.
Thank You.

Also...In the course of the day, each of us devotes a few minutes of quiet time to write, on unlined paper, one line of the initial of our first name (not nickname) in both upper- and lowercase. Just one line; that's it...more if you care to. Read more online...
