Stories from the Heart

Oh Vimala,

You can't believe what happened! Well, maybe YOU can, but I'm still in shock...and I thought you'd want to know. My daughter Katy (not her real name) and I used to get along so beautifully when she was younger, but as she began to grow up something happened. She changed, and I became cranky toward her. All along I thought it was her, because she never listened to me---until our pastor's wife Lisa (not her real name), who is a dear friend of mine, pointed out that "it takes two to tango." For years she and I had laughed about my "stubborn streak," and when I complained about Katy's behavior, she shared with me that this just might be where the trouble began.

Then she revealed what she and her husband called their "family secret." Lisa laughed and said, "As everyone knows, I've always loved to write, and because my pen collection has always been a family joke, friends always know what to give me for my birthday! But last year, instead of a pen, a close friend gave me a book on transforming your life through handwriting. I was stunned because I had never head of such a thing---but I was curious." As she began to read the book and listen to the CDs she started to adopt a few of your letter forms.  She went on to say that it became a daily habit. After a few weeks, her husband commented that she had a lighter, more accepting way of being, and he thanked her for being more "accepting" of what he called his "quirks." She told him that credit belongs to her new morning habit---which had become like a prayer time for her.

He had heard parts of your alphabetical CDs when she played them, but he only flipped through the pages of the book, wondering about the truth of it all---until he saw proof in his wife's gentler, more understanding behavior. At first he scoffed, "Could it be her new writing practice?" He wanted to find out, so he asked if he could join her in the morning. "If we don't speak, but only write" was her response. He agreed. They wrote each morning and called this time together "Our Grace-filled moment to start the day." After a few weeks of writing together, they decided to choose a card from your deck of Alphabet cards and bring that quality into their life for the next 24 hours. All of this brought a new dimension to their relationship---and to every other relationship in their lives.

My logical question was this: "Why hasn't John (not his real name) shared this 'revelation' with the congregation?" Lisa laughed. "He shares it with close friends who will understand, but to speak it from the pulpit would come across as 'preachy,' and if you've noticed, he doesn't do that any more. His sermons have become less 'dictatorial,' and more understanding of what it is to love God while being human!"

I'm telling you this as a background, Vimala, to let you know that after Lisa shared her experience, I went out and bought your book and immediately began to write---although it wasn't easy to give up my capital letter printing! Then, after I had just completed my first 40 days, Lo and Behold! my daughter Katy began to soften in her attitude toward me. She began to listen to what I had to say, and not interrupt or be rude. We still may not agree, but now we both listen in order to understand, and not just to be right. I realized at that point, that it has not been Katy who has been what I called the "sassy culprit." I was the one! What a shock! What a revelation!---and what joy to know that I can change my attitude by changing the way I write! Hallelujah!

I'd love it if Katy started to use your writing system too, but I'm not going to suggest it. In days gone by I would have scolded her for not even trying---and probably given her your book, a notebook, and a pen! But that's not me any more. I'll let her do it if she's drawn to---but not because I say she should. It has to be her choice, free from "parental coercion." I leave your "kit" (with book, CDS, cards, and journal) on my desk---and if she wants to look through them, fine; but I'm not going to suggest it.

I've got to tell you, Vimala, it's so freeing to feel this way. It actually makes me feel happy inside, like my very soul is rejoicing! As you must have guessed, my new "approach to life" is affecting not only my relationship with Katy, but with everyone I know. As I write each morning, it feels as though I keep peeling away those parts of my personality that weren't who I wanted to be. I am truly experiencing what it means to be "born again"---and all because of my pen and me---with an abundance of Grace sprinkled in! Whooppee! and another Hallelujah! from a heart filled with joy!

Vimala, I love my new self...Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for offering such a simple way to come alive!

What is the Vimala Alphabet  Vimala Rodgers

After years of study and research, Vimala Rodgers developed The Vimala Alphabet. Each letter shape is designed specifically to bring your hidden talents and abilities to life. As you begin to adopt self-affirming writing patterns, you naturally release those that are self-limiting, and at the same time you reconfigure the neurological patterns in your brain. This process is invaluable for people who are determined to let go of the past and stride ahead fully expressed in life. In scientific circles it is called neuroplasticity or cortical remapping.  All it takes is pen and paper.

Does it work? You bet it does! -- every time. Pick up your pen and experience it for yourself.

How to Begin

If you are among the courageous visionaries who want to transform their lives through the Vimala Alphabet technology, choose at least 3 letters:

  • The first letter is the initial of your first name - not nickname, but your real birth first name. If you adopted a new first name after your 35th birthday, use that as your first name. By writing this letter, you will experience profound personal changes.
  • The second letter is the Letter of the Week.
  • The third letter is one you have chosen in order to bring about a specific transformation in your life.  Choose a letter from the Vimala Alphabet Guidebook.

Follow these steps:

  1. Write at least 3 lines of upper and lowercase letters.
  2. Write on unlined paper in the landscape direction.
  3. No pencils, please. Use a pen.
  4. Begin by writing once, at the top of the page, the Declaration of Intent of the initial of your first name.
  5. Write the first and third letters for at least 40 consecutive days. If you skip a day, start over. 40 is the number of transformation; it takes 40 days for the neurons in the brain to realign themselves, which is what the process of adopting self-affirming handwriting patterns does.
Aspects of the Letters

Just as you have gifts unique to who you are, so does each letter. I call them "aspects." I'd like to begin our new venture by sharing one of those aspects, perhaps the most important one of all: the Guardian Protector.

Through the years I've studied hundreds of traditions throughout the world, and have found that within each one, there are such beings that we call called "angels" in English, yet are called by a different name in many traditions: devas in the scriptures of India, Al-Malaikah in the Qur'an of Islam, Malakh in the Hebrew Bible--and on and on throughout the world. To avoid religious distinctions, I call each one a Guardian Protector, because that is their role.

Trust me. They are as alive and attentive as you and I--just invisible, that's all--but fully present nonetheless. Create a conversation with them--then you will know. As with everything I teach, I insist that you do not believe what I say. To know in your heart of hearts that what I say is true, I suggest that you experience it by adopting suggested writing habits, along with applying the aspects of each letter, especially that of the Guardian Protector.

Letter of the Week - K

Soul Quality: Attitude toward authority; the letter of the rebel.

The Letter Kk reflects an attitude of one who draws lines in life. They can be healthy lines; they can be unhealthy lines; they can be drawn in indelible paint; they can be drawn in sand. The Letter Kk reflects our attitude toward authority. When you saw the word "rebel" you may have laughed---especially if you have been decried as one. Please keep in mind that we need our rebels. Without them the world would disintegrate into a consciousness in which people complain, follow along like sheep, yet do nothing to create change.

Declaration of Intent: I know when to lead and when to follow, when to speak and when to be still.

Guardian Protector: Galgaliel (Gal-GAL-ee-el)-the angel of vibratory energy.

As one of the chief angels in heaven, it is Galgaliel's job to keep your vibratory energy aligned with your Inner Spirit. When you find yourself dropping into resentment, anger, or the need to get even, ask Galgaliel to shift your thinking from the level of egoic self-concern to a soul level. Talk to him as a friend and guide; work with him by sitting down and writing lines of healthy Kks. Breathe into your writing as you speak with him; he will calm and balance your energy by aligning your mind and soul, allowing the answers you seek to make themselves known. You may receive the "knowing" to breathe! Close your eyes, consciously inhale through the nose---hold the breath---exhale vigorously through the mouth---ah-h-h-h-h-h-h. Do this two or three times. Now pick up your pen.

How to Inscribe the Most Self-Affirming Letter Kk:

Uppercase:

  • Inscribe a firmly drawn "I am" stroke to the baseline.
  • Follow that by drawing a sideways V that barely touches (and does not go through) the middle of the "I am" stroke, aligning with both the top of the upper zone and the baseline.

Lowercase:

  • Inscribe a firmly drawn "I am" stroke to the baseline.
  • Follow that by drawing a sideways V that barely touches (and does not go through) the "I am" stroke and aligns with the top of the midzone and the baseline.

Caveat: No loops, no curls, no curvy strokes anywhere, ever!

High Flying Loops!
Some time ago our Newsletter Angel explained why the lower loops when we write become "high flying" loops in the newsletter. In case you weren't here at the time, let me explain, as simply as I can with my minimal electronic knowledge:

The formatting we use won't allow the loops to 'settle down' where they belong, especially when they
appear on a mobile device...and we know of no other program that will.

If these misplaced loops still bother you, you might want to do this: Practice writing lines of the Letter Ss(patience), the gh Ligature (non-resistance), and the Letter Zz (gentle acceptance of what is). You might also include a few lines of the initial of your first name, because that one letter holds within it your greatest opportunity for spiritual growth---a curriculum in itself, as it were.

Sursum et pergite! (Upward and onward!)

Please Join Us

Last year, several "Handwriters for Peace" members requested, and we formed, an Alphabetical Prayer Circle through which members could ask for specific prayers in emergency situations and we would hold both those intentions with our own intentions in our prayers.

Because it's time to expand the Circle, I'm inviting you to join us. There is no need to become a Handwriter for Peace, nor do you have to give me your name, only your e-mail address, as I send all Prayer Circle Emails as BCCs. If you choose to join us, please send an e-mail to vimala@vimalarodgers.com with PRAYER CIRCLE in the Subject Box and this message: I'd like to join your Alphabetical Prayer Circle.

To strengthen our intentions, each day we agree to spend a precious 10 seconds once---or many times a day---offering our Alphabetical Healing Prayer:

Fill each of us with Your Healing Light:
those of us in this Prayer Circle,
all those we love,
and all those we have difficulty loving.
Thank You.

Also...In the course of the day, each of us devotes a few minutes of quiet time to write, on unlined paper, one line of the initial of our first name (not nickname) in both upper- and lowercase. Just one line; that's it...more if you care to. Read more online...
