Stories from the Heart

The only poor grade I ever received in elementary school was in handwriting. I never liked to do it anyway; it felt so contrived. Last year when I received a Christmas card with a note written inside of it from a long-time friend and neighbor, I commented on how "natural" her writing felt, and with a big smile she said she had been relearning how to write for the past few years, and she'd love to tell me about it and show me how. My first thought was "Learning to handwrite at your age?!" but instead I replied, "I don't do handwriting. I print in all caps so it's legible." She looked at me with a daunting attitude bordering on a dare and replied, "You probably couldn't, anyway."

I'm sure we'll always remember the discussion that followed--and the laughter! As Lorraine (not her real name) knows, my motto in life has always been, "I can do anything I set my mind to!"  I've proved this by scaling cliffs, changing my diet to raw foods for two months--just to prove I could do it--and on and on, in about every area of my life. Changing my handwriting seemed distasteful and completely unnecessary, but I would not be defeated by a pen--so I went to your websites to see what I was in for. Although I saw no reason to change who I was, and the concept of changing my life by writing a certain way was alien to me, I was determined. So to show Loraine that despite my resistance, I could change my handwriting (i.e., in truth, learn to write) I accepted her challenge.

I've got to say, learning to kayak on a raging river was easier than starting to imitate your letters! But I had promised Lorraine I would give it a go for 40 days and get back to her, so I began. I thought my pen would whip right across the page, but instead, it stumbled. REALLY stumbled. Because it's my nature to go full out with anything I start, each day I wrote your entire alphabet once, and for the first 40 days I chose to focus on three letters as you suggested. I chose V v, the initial of my firstname, because Lorraine said it was the most important letter to write well. I also chose the MMm and the Tt

This was not easy, not at all. But once I put aside the dreaded feeling of failure I had so many years ago in handwriting class in school, it began to feel a bit comfortable. Your letters were different. They weren't stiff, if you will, in fact many of them actually felt friendly. That t with the loop at the top was the easiest for me to write. I really liked it. Still do. Yes, I had to go slow, but I had learned from my other "adventures" that "slow" in the beginning is the requisite of learning anything new, and perhaps the most important factor in order to grasp how "all the parts fit together" in reaching the goal.

All of this was four 40-day cycles ago. I'm beginning my fifth today, and I've got to admit, my pen has a good time moving across the page now. I still have to slow down and pay attention as I write some of the letters, but most of them have become pretty easy. I even began to write short notes to some people that I used to e-mail, and to a person, they are so appreciative about receiving a handwritten note!  My "old response" would be to suggest they get your book and insist they use it. But now I just thank them--warmly and sincerely. One person whom I've known for years said this when he received my first handwritten note to him: "How ever did you get your words to smile?!"

Has my life changed? *I* feel it has because I've become happier and more relaxed with who I am. I'm an athletic coach, and I'm noticing that my students learn much faster when I support their individual learning pace by encouraging them in a positive direction when they're doing something wrong, rather than judging them for it. I know I have a long way to go, but 'beginning' is the most important step, and I've taken a quantum leap, if you will, and lovin' it!  Quite a few people who've known me for some time have said I've changed in several ways. Breaking down all their comments: I am kinder now, I listen without interrupting, and am not as controlling as  I used to be. I'm still working on that control issue by writing extra lines of the MMm each day. Not easy--but well worth the goal. I look forward to seeing the changes that are coming, especially after I can write all your letters across the page effortlessly.

I just re-read this letter and laughed out loud. "Who, ME? Handwriting? I wish Mrs. Leon (my third grade teacher) could see me now!"

Thanks, Vimala. I hope you GET how much this means to me!

P.S. When I showed Lorraine my initial 40-day handwriting, she was so impressed that she offered to give me handwriting "tips" if I have questions. I'm heading for the Gold!

What is the Vimala Alphabet?  Vimala Rodgers

After years of study and research, Vimala Rodgers developed The Vimala Alphabet. Each letter shape is designed specifically to bring your hidden talents and abilities to life. As you begin to adopt self-affirming writing patterns, you naturally release those that are self-limiting, and at the same time you reconfigure the neurological patterns in your brain. This process is invaluable for people who are determined to let go of the past and stride ahead fully expressed in life. In scientific circles it is called neuroplasticity or cortical remapping.  All it takes is pen and paper.

Does it work? You bet it does! -- every time. Pick up your pen and experience it for yourself.

How to Begin

If you are among the courageous visionaries who want to transform their lives through the Vimala Alphabet technology, choose at least 3 letters:

  • The first letter is the initial of your first name - not nickname, but your real birth first name. If you adopted a new first name after your 35th birthday, use that as your first name. By writing this letter, you will experience profound personal changes.
  • The second letter is the Letter of the Week.
  • The third letter is one you have chosen in order to bring about a specific transformation in your life.  Choose a letter from the Vimala Alphabet Guidebook.

Follow these steps:

  1. Write at least 3 lines of upper and lowercase letters.
  2. Write on unlined paper in the landscape direction.
  3. No pencils, please. Use a pen.
  4. Begin by writing once, at the top of the page, the Declaration of Intent of the initial of your first name.
  5. Write the first and third letters for at least 40 consecutive days. If you skip a day, start over. 40 is the number of transformation; it takes 40 days for the neurons in the brain to realign themselves, which is what the process of adopting self-affirming handwriting patterns does.
  6.  Write the third letter for a single week.
Aspects of the Letters

Just as you have gifts unique to who you are, so does each letter. I call them "aspects." I'd like to begin our new venture by sharing one of those aspects, perhaps the most important one of all: the Guardian Protector.

Through the years I've studied hundreds of traditions throughout the world, and have found that within each one, there are such beings that we call called "angels" in English, yet are called by a different name in many traditions: devas in the scriptures of India, Al-Malaikah in the Qur'an of Islam, Malakh in the Hebrew Bible----and on and on throughout the world. To avoid religious distinctions, I call each one a Guardian Protector, because that is their role.

Trust me ---They are as alive and attentive as you and I--just invisible, that's all--but fully present nonetheless. Create a conversation with them---then you will know. As with everything I teach, I insist that you do not believe what I say. To know in your heart of hearts that what I say is true, I suggest that you experience it by adopting suggested writing habits, along with applying the aspects of each letter, especially that of the Guardian Protector.

Letter of the Week - V

Soul Quality: Spiritual Discernment.

If you want to lead a life based on self-made choices, not those made by an outside influence, inscribe this magnificent letter just as you see it above with the top open to new ideas, and an angle as the baseline, indicating discernment: choosing carefully always from your highest self. A spiritually discriminating attitude such as this also states, "I alone am responsible for the decisions I make." A curve at the baseline points fingers away from yourself with a tendency to  blame others for your decisions. Once you have adopted the habit of writing the pointed V v you will feel a spiritual strength, a sense of owning who you are from the inside out.

Declaration of Intent: I make all my choices attentively, always for the highest good.

Guardian Protector: ZAGZAGEL, the angel of wisdom.

Discernment and wisdom are like the front and back of the hand; one cannot be present without the other. Zagzagel encourages us to look at all sides involved in reaching a decision to see whether they are based on self interest or on a broader spectrum.

Because I am a V v Person, here is what I do when I have a tough decision to make--especially one in which some people will not be pleased no matter what I decide. Put yourself in my place as you read on.

I find a quiet place to be alone, then, on unlined paper, I write three of four words describing each facet of the issue at hand. Then I write a line of the Letter V v.  I put my pen down, look at each topic, close my eyes, take a few deep breaths, then ask Zagzagel to ignite my discerning mind and guide me to a decision that will be for the highest good of all. I'm quiet for a few minutes, clearing my mind as much as possible, then I take a few good, deep breaths. I pick up my pen and write the Declaration of Intent of the Letter V v. "I, Vimala, make all my choices attentively, always for the highest good." I follow that by writing a few more lines of the Letter V v, then a line with words that contain the letter V v, such as Victoria, verve, vivacious, vital, Valentine, valour.  Once done, I put my pen down, honor the decision I have reached, and say "Thank You."

How to Inscribe the Most Self-Affirming
Letter
V v

Uppercase:

  • From the top of the upperzone, inscribe a diagonal stroke to the baseline.
  • Create an expanded angle at the baseline.
  • Now swoop upward in a slight curve to the right, ending at the top of the upperzone.

Caveat: No loops, curves, or decorations anywhere.

Lowercase:

  • A miniature of the uppercase, occupying the midzone.

Caveat:  Do not lead into the Letter V v with a stroke or out from it. It stands alone. This is true of only one other letter, the Letter Xx, which, if you notice, is four v's joined in the heart.

Please Join Us

Last year, several "Handwriters for Peace" members requested, and we formed, an Alphabetical Prayer Circle through which members could ask for specific prayers in emergency situations and we would hold both those intentions with our own intentions in our prayers.

Because it's time to expand the Circle, I'm inviting you to join us. There is no need to become a Handwriter for Peace, nor do you have to give me your name, only your e-mail address, as I send all Prayer Circle Emails as BCCs. If you choose to join us, please send an e-mail to vimala@vimalarodgers.com with PRAYER CIRCLE in the Subject Box and this message: I'd like to join your Alphabetical Prayer Circle.

To strengthen our intentions, each day we agree to spend a precious 10 seconds once---or many times a day---offering our Alphabetical Healing Prayer:

Fill each of us with Your Healing Light:
those of us in this Prayer Circle,
all those we love,
and all those we have difficulty loving.
Thank You.

Also...In the course of the day, each of us devotes a few minutes of quiet time to write, on unlined paper, one line of the initial of our first name (not nickname) in both upper- and lowercase. Just one line; that's it...more if you care to. Read more online...
