Stories from the Heart

When I was driving home from work the other day, I heard you being interviewed on a radio show, and you made a suggestion I felt would be impossible or at least uncomfortable for me to implement, but I was curious. You were speaking about handwriting patterns as a mirror of how we think, in particular the Letter Uu, and although I don't write, but print, I kept listening anyway. You said that we all play roles in life, and for the experience of it, in order to bring alive the meaning of any letter, to live its meaning in daily life. "Today, I'm speaking about the Letter Uu, and I invite you who are listening to be 'the one who doesn't know.'" You suggested that we let somebody else tell us how to do something that we already know how to do, sincerely. I was pondering how I could do this and at the same time be sincere ("Sincerity is the heart of this exercise" --your words).  This was a totally unfamiliar role for me because, in my profession, people count on me to be "the one who knows."

Then I flashed on an idea. I stopped at a gas station and parked at the water/air section, next to a beat-up old pick-up truck. Its owner (I'll call him Bob) had just slammed the hood down on his truck, and was getting ready to leave. I bent over my left front tire, looking puzzled, and Bob asked what the problem was. I responded, sincerely, that the tire looked as though it needed air, but I didn't know how much. He came on over, asked me to open the lid of the gas tank, and when I did, he read what it said and replied, "Oh...34 front 32 rear" and shut the lid. "In cold weather the tire pressure is different, so just read what it says and you'll know." I thanked him and told him I wasn't sure how to put air in tires or how to measure the poundage, and could he show me. He looked at me, astounded, asked if I had a few minutes, then pulled the air hose over to my car and began to teach me, tire by tire, the 'how and what' of putting air in tires. "Let me check them all for you, and you watch me." When he got to the fourth tire he handed me the hose and said, "Here. See if you can do it now."

I followed his directions, step by step, asking if I was doing it right, and with only one correction, he said, "Good job. Now remember 34 front 32 rear"---with the most straight, upright posture and the biggest smile I had seen in weeks. As he was climbing into his truck, I thanked him for 'sharing his wisdom,' and asked if I could pay him. He laughed, and with another big smile he replied, "Hey Guy. Happy to help---and by the way, you might consider getting those tires rotated!" Still smiling, he roared off. The feeling that filled ME is difficult to put into words---but I'll just say, by letting HIM be the one who knows, he left with a sense of dignity. It felt so darned good.

Now that my tires had been appropriately filled with air, I drove over to one of the gas pumps, pulled out my credit card, then changed my mind.  I went into the little mini-mart and told the proprietor I wanted to fill my tank, but I didn't have enough cash with me, and would someone show me how to use my credit card at the pump? He looked at me in disbelief and said,  "You just put the card in and follow directions." I told him I had tried that, but it didn't work. He called his son over--about age 12--and sent him to the pump with me. I'll call him Jaya. "See---It says to put in your card and remove it quickly. Now do that." I did with an "Ah!" and a "Thank you, Jaya!" "Now it asks you to enter your zip code. Press these buttons to do that, then press ENTER." I did. "Ah!" all over again, and another 'Thank you.' "Now you have to choose the kind of gas you want: unleaded regular, unleaded super regular, or unleaded premium. Press one of those buttons." I did. "I'm so impressed at your knowledge, Jaya. Thank you."

By this time Jaya had assumed the demeanor of a college professor!  "Now you put the nozzle in your gas tank and press on the handle. Once it's filled, it will stop automatically. If you want a receipt, the message in the window will ask for a YES or NO. Press one of those replies on the window. If you press YES, your receipt will print out here." He pointed to the 'receipt slot.' "It's usually pretty slow, so you'll have to wait a few seconds. Then you're done." I thanked him once again with a warm smile, and  a very sincere "Thank you so much." As he ran back to the store he stopped, turned around and shouted, "If you need any more help, just come on in and get me!" What a smile!

Thanks to your suggestion, Vimala, I've experienced (one of your favorite words) that by sincerely letting someone else be "the one who knows,"  joy fills MY heart because I know how *I* would have felt, had I been in their place. Thank you. What a revelation. What a gift. And what a practice to take into my life. Again....I thank you. And, of course, I bought your book and am now beginning to practice writing a few letters in your script, beginning with the Uu---because it started this whole new revelation for me.

Because you mentioned your website address on the show, I found your newsletter, and I hope my story qualifies for an issue down the line--with the intention of inspiring readers to adopt this Uu practice into their lives.

What is the Vimala Alphabet?  Vimala Rodgers

After years of study and research, Vimala Rodgers developed The Vimala Alphabet. Each letter shape is designed specifically to bring your hidden talents and abilities to life. As you begin to adopt self-affirming writing patterns, you naturally release those that are self-limiting, and at the same time you reconfigure the neurological patterns in your brain. This process is invaluable for people who are determined to let go of the past and stride ahead fully expressed in life. In scientific circles it is called neuroplasticity or cortical remapping.  All it takes is pen and paper.

Does it work? You bet it does! -- every time. Pick up your pen and experience it for yourself.

How to Begin

If you are among the courageous visionaries who want to transform their lives through the Vimala Alphabet technology, choose at least 3 letters:

  • The first letter is the initial of your first name - not nickname, but your real birth first name. If you adopted a new first name after your 35th birthday, use that as your first name. By writing this letter, you will experience profound personal changes.
  • The second letter is the Letter of the Week.
  • The third letter is one you have chosen in order to bring about a specific transformation in your life.  Choose a letter from the Vimala Alphabet Guidebook.

Follow these steps:

  1. Write at least 3 lines of upper and lowercase letters.
  2. Write on unlined paper in the landscape direction.
  3. No pencils, please. Use a pen.
  4. Begin by writing once, at the top of the page, the Declaration of Intent of the initial of your first name.
  5. Write the first and third letters for at least 40 consecutive days. If you skip a day, start over. 40 is the number of transformation; it takes 40 days for the neurons in the brain to realign themselves, which is what the process of adopting self-affirming handwriting patterns does.
  6.  Write the third letter for a single week.
Aspects of the Letters

Just as you have gifts unique to who you are, so does each letter. I call them "aspects." I'd like to begin our new venture by sharing one of those aspects, perhaps the most important one of all: the Guardian Protector.

Through the years I've studied hundreds of traditions throughout the world, and have found that within each one, there are such beings that we call called "angels" in English, yet are called by a different name in many traditions: devas in the scriptures of India, Al-Malaikah in the Qur'an of Islam, Malakh in the Hebrew Bible----and on and on throughout the world. To avoid religious distinctions, I call each one a Guardian Protector, because that is their role.

Trust me ---They are as alive and attentive as you and I--just invisible, that's all--but fully present nonetheless. Create a conversation with them---then you will know. As with everything I teach, I insist that you do not believe what I say. To know in your heart of hearts that what I say is true, I suggest that you experience it by adopting suggested writing habits, along with applying the aspects of each letter, especially that of the Guardian Protector.

Letter of the Week - Uu

If you'd like to give up the need to be the one who knows, and allow others to tell you "how it is," you will grow in spirit as you master writing this letter, and apply it in your day-to-day life.

Declaration of Intent: I listen to others as though I know nothing.

Guardian Protector: Metatron (MET-a-tron) -the angel of thought. In Judaic lore, Metatron is considered to be larger than the earth in size and next to God in importance. Twin brother of Sandalphon, who is Guardian Protector of the Letter Xx, many traditions are wrapped around this mighty being. Alphabetically, the Mighty Metatron is the angel who invites us to keep our thoughts free from opinions, and to be open to Truth in its many guises. He invites us to interact with others as though they have the answers we lack. He invites us to be grateful for our own mind, and to use it with respect for both others and ourselves. If Uu is the letter you have chosen to practice, ask Metatron to guide your thought habits, freeing them from opinions and with an open mind to the views of others. It can be quite an astounding journey.

How to inscribe the Letter  Uu:

Uppercase: Cup-shape filling mid- and upperzones with the right side slightly shorter than the left, ending with a gentle up-curve at the baseline.

Lowercase: A miniature of the uppercase, occupying only the midzone.

Caveat: Keep the sides of the letter vertical, not curved; no loop on either side.

Please Join Us

Last year, several "Handwriters for Peace" members requested, and we formed, an Alphabetical Prayer Circle through which members could ask for specific prayers in emergency situations and we would hold both those intentions with our own intentions in our prayers.

Because it's time to expand the Circle, I'm inviting you to join us. There is no need to become a Handwriter for Peace, nor do you have to give me your name, only your e-mail address, as I send all Prayer Circle Emails as BCCs. If you choose to join us, please send an e-mail to vimala@vimalarodgers.com with PRAYER CIRCLE in the Subject Box and this message: I'd like to join your Alphabetical Prayer Circle.

To strengthen our intentions, each day we agree to spend a precious 10 seconds once---or many times a day---offering our Alphabetical Healing Prayer:

Fill each of us with Your Healing Light:
those of us in this Prayer Circle,
all those we love,
and all those we have difficulty loving.
Thank You.

Also...In the course of the day, each of us devotes a few minutes of quiet time to write, on unlined paper, one line of the initial of our first name (not nickname) in both upper- and lowercase. Just one line; that's it...more if you care to. Read more online...
