Message from the Chair
Our Colorado Legislature was called back into session this week to finish the work that they should have done during their regular session. The main reason that the Colorado legislature did not finish its work is because the Speaker of the House, Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch, ran out the clock rather than debate and vote on a bill that the majority of the Colorado Legislature and the majority of Colorado citizens support, a bill allowing civil unions for same sex couples and just a few of the legal protections that my family enjoys. To avoid the controversial civil unions bill, Speaker McNulty and the Republican caucus killed bills that dealt with water, roads, and Colorado employment.
We need a Colorado legislature that will do the people's work and avoid extreme positions that don't represent or benefit the people who live and work here. We need to get out and support Larimer's Democratic candidates with our time and treasure. Please reflect on the failures of this session and decide what your contributions to your Larimer County candidates will be. This is what you can do for equal protection under the law: Contact Rep. Randy Fischer, Joann Ginal, Rep. John Kefalas, Mark Shaffer or James Shelton and offer your help. Let's build a better house.
