Message from the Chair

The Larimer County Democrats Annual Dinner and Silent Auction is this Saturday. You can still get a seat if you go to LarimerDems.org right now. We are focusing on our 2012 election year organizing and I'm thrilled about the turnout for the dinner. It's going to be a great event for all of us and we will make a difference this fall.

We are still adding to a wonderful selection of art, jewelry, political memorablilia, books , and gifts from our notable Democratic leaders for the 2012 Silent Auction. Linda Bersch and crew have outdone themselves again. Hard to believe, but we have a wine cooler that has not been filled yet. Please drop your donations by our office or the Shaffer Law Offices, Details below.

Now that we have all of our Larimer County Democratic candidates selected for the 2012 general elections I would like to promote one each week in this message. And I'm just going to select them as the inspiration hits me.

Candidate Profile of The Week:

Mark Shaffer is your candidate for Colorado State House District 51. Mark has been a great contributor in the public policy debates of Larimer County, a prominent local attorney located in Loveland, and a proactive supporter of all the other Democratic candidates that have campaigned in Larimer County. He has been a good friend and astute counsel to many of us, including the leadership of the Larimer County Democrats. He is going to make the best representative for ALL the citizens of House District 51 (Loveland, Colorado). Mark Shaffer will help the working families of Larimer County find their way out of this recession and serve as a great cornerstone of a brand new Colorado House.

Please join me in supporting this stellar candidate by visiting markshafferforhd51.com and giving him your time and treasure.

--William Russell

Thanks for the donations to date but more are needed to make this important fund raiser a big success.  We have campaign memorabilia, books and wine, jewelry and some wonderful fine art, including oils, watercolors and a copper respousse and those tasty lobster dinners.  See our web site for pictures of some of these items and especially to view the Raven Wind jewelry donated by Lynn Aldrin's family.
Donations can be delivered to the Larimer County Democrats office, 606 South Mason, Fort Collins during office hours or to the Shaffer Law office, 218 East Sixth Street, Loveland between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm weekdays.

Tuesday, April 3:
CD2 Assembly & Convention

There has been some confusion caused by the CD2 Call issued by the CDP for the meeting at La Quinta in Loveland on Tuesday night, April 3. I don't know whether this item was caught in many spam filters but everyone who applied at the Larimer County Democratic Assembly is a delegate. The Larimer County Democrats will continue to advertise this meeting and the business we have to do that night in an effort to keep everybody informed.

These are the Larimer County Democrats candidates for Charlotte, N.C. Democratic National Convention: Joseph Coop, Derek Ketner, Tim Kubik, Lindsay Lussan, Willa Prescott, David Trask.

If you applied to be a Delegate to the Colorado Democratic Party Convention and Assembly you are going. The call will be issued sometime in the first week of April.

Wednesday, March 28:
"Health Care: For People of For Profit"
Sponsored by Health Care for All Colorado
The new documentary "Health Care: For People or For Profit" will be
screened and followed by a discussion led by Glenn Pearson, M.D.
Produced in late 2011 by the Canadian/American couple Laurie Simons and Terry Sterrenberg, the movie describes the impact on the lives of Canadians who now have access to universal health care because of an intense political struggle nearly 50 years ago.
It illustrates the story of how the health care systems of Canada and the United States evolved to be so different, when at one point they were essentially the same. Examples are given of public relations campaigns that have been prevalent in the United States since the early 1900s to dissuade citizens from supporting national health care.
