Message from the Chair

There is still time to purchase your seats for the March 31, 2012 Larimer County Democrats Annual Dinner & Silent Auction. Our speaker this year is John Nichols, infamous firebrand of The Nation. We will be joined by our new Democratic Congressman, Jared Polis. Thanks to all the people who have already signed up for this major fundraiser, and if you don't want to miss all the fun, go to LarimerDems.org and click on the dinner link.

Every year, at the Larimer County Democrats Annual Dinner and Silent Auction, we recognize a few Larimer County Democrats that have set an example for all us. We have received great nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award and Volunteer of the Year.

This year, we are going to honor our former Larimer County Democratic Party Treasurer, Lynn Alldrin, for all of her contributions to her community and all of her contributions to the Larimer County Democrats. Lynn's Lifetime Achievement is, literally, a better world.

We have picked four dynamic volunteers out of the hundreds that work every day for our candidates and campaigns for our 2012 Volunteers of the Year. All of these Democrats have volunteered their time and treasure to support our candidates and values in Larimer County. Please help us applaud the efforts of Kathryn Barrett, Peter Hall, Patsy Morris, and Kristin Stephens.

And (I know you've been waiting for this), we will have new Larimer County Democrats shirts. Click here to see a sample and to pre-order at an introductory low price. You can have your t-shirt in time for the State Assembly and Convention if you order now. You'll have the pre-washed comfort of our new logo when it's time to knock doors this summer. Everybody looks great in a Larimer County Democrats t-shirt and we will set aside a little donation to help us elect candidates like Barack Obama, Jared Polis, John Kefalas, Randy Fischer, Joann Ginal, James Shelton and Karen Stockley right here in Larimer County.

--William Russell

"A remarkable transition has happened since Wisconsinites occupied their streets and their Capitol. Progressives have moved from despair to hope. Not to victory, but to a sense of possibility.

--John Nichols

Donations can be delivered to the Larimer County Democrats office, 606 South Mason, Fort Collins during office hours or to the Shaffer Law office, 218 East Sixth Street, Loveland between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm weekdays.

The State Budget as a Moral Document: Balancing Colorado's Financial Priorities in a Fiscally Constrained Environment

oin Reps. John Kefalas and Randy Fischer, and Sen. Bob Bacon for a community issues forum focused on Colorado's 2012/2013 state budget.  The forum will feature a panel of experts who will describe the key points of the coming year's budget. The panel will also discuss the short-term and long-term fiscal impacts of Colorado's constitutionally constrained finances and the structural imbalances revealed in recent reports prepared by the University of Denver's Center for Colorado's Economic Future.  This is a great opportunity to learn where and how taxpayer dollars are used and the state services they fund.    The panelists' opening presentations will be followed by a community dialogue.

"Health Care: For People of For Profit"
Sponsored by Health Care for All Colorado
The new documentary "Health Care: For People or For Profit" will be
screened and followed by a discussion led by Glenn Pearson, M.D.
Produced in late 2011 by the Canadian/American couple Laurie Simons and Terry Sterrenberg, the movie describes the impact on the lives of Canadians who now have access to universal health care because of an intense political struggle nearly 50 years ago.
It illustrates the story of how the health care systems of Canada and the United States evolved to be so different, when at one point they were essentially the same. Examples are given of public relations campaigns that have been prevalent in the United States since the early 1900s to dissuade citizens from supporting national health care.
Date & Time: Wednesday, March 28, 7:00 pm
