Message from the Chair
I met Lynn Alldrin in 2002 when I was new on the board of our local GLBT community center. As a volunteer, Lynn wrote a grant that brought a tidy infusion of cash into the center at a critical time. I reached out to her and a working relationship and friendship quickly formed. As the campaigns of 2004 began to take shape, it was clear how important they would be to all of us. For the next six years, Lynn provided critical thought and action to innumerable Larimer County Democrats efforts and Democratic campaigns, and she was a key part of the Larimer County Democrats management team during the busy year of 2008. Lynn grew up in rural Montana, married young and raised three children. As a single mom, Lynn earned a Masters in social work and worked in Wyoming with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Later in life, Lynn worked with semi-precious stones, crafting and selling her unique jewelry. Through all of her experience, she had a keen understanding of the darker and brighter sides of human nature and took naturally to political activism. Part of a hardy contingent that traveled to Iowa in the winter of '04 to work for Howard Dean, Lynn knew that a genuine approach would always be stronger and more appealing to voters than soft-pedaling our views and the strategy of triangulation that had prevailed among many Democrats prior to the 2004 campaigns. Lynn's political instinct thrived in the grassroots and netroots movement that quickly grew beyond Dean's candidacy. Lynn loved her political blogs and wielded language and argument with mastery. Her sense of humor went right along with this. From seeing the humor in political skirmishes to the more mundane yet cathartic cursing of Quick Books or weekly email software into submission, we found many things to laugh about. Those who worked closely with Lynn often had the pleasure of going home with a grin. With Lynn's passing, we have lost a crusader for social justice and a strong woman who was acutely aware of what made people tick. Her spot-on observations and sense of humor reflected her ability to understand people and their motivations. Lynn Alldrin made a tremendous contribution to our party and to so many people individually. She will be deeply missed. --Adam Bowen, Former Chairman, Larimer County Democrats
