Message from the Chair
I'm writing this from the Larimer County Elections Post Election Audit. 51% of the eligible electors turned out in Larimer and surprised all. Some of this we can take credit for. Many Larimer Dems worked for school board candidates, municipal candidates and issues that affected their families; these volunteers drove turnout, and were successful in many races. In addition, we decided to advertise the fact that voters that did not vote in the 2010 election were made inactive and would not receive a ballot for this odd year election unless they did something to undo their deactivation. Anybody that made the contact with Larimer Elections, received a ballot, and voted it, is reactivated for the general election next year in 2012. By helping a voter get back on the rolls this year, we helped our candidates and our families next year too.
There is legislation being considered for the next session to correct the various interpretations of who is an active voter and who isn't, but we aren't waiting. The deactivated voter list will continue to be a high priority project for Larimer Dems because skipping an off year election shouldn't invalidate your voting privileges. A permanent mail-in ballot should be a little more permanent.
We would like to thank our volunteers with a little Volunteer Appreciation Party this Friday, November 18. We have reserved a new local restaurant, Cilantro Grille, for a taco bar and beverages. See the details below and stop by if you can. We did well and it was because of our highly skilled and motivated volunteers.  Thank You.
