Battery Backup Operators

Have you ever wondered what type of operator is best for hurricane season? Battery backup operators are great for stormy climates like SW Florida. When the power goes out you'll still be able to get into your garage. The latest LiftMaster Battery Backup model 8550 has a belt drive that runs quietly and smoothly and has increased security features. Every 8550 comes with 2 remotes, 1 smart control wall panel, and a free keyless entry. With the added Internet Gateway you can even use your smart phone to open your door.

But the point here is, battery backup operator systems can help you get in your garage while keeping your home secure at all times. For the month of June LiftMaster is offering a $15 mail-in rebate and with this eNewsletter you can get an additional $20 off!

Greetings!

In case you haven't heard, it is hurricane season. In this eNewsletter you'll read about new wind ratings for garage doors, how to give your door a visual inspection to decide if you need maintenance, and information about battery backup operators. Since the garage is the largest opening in your home we are always prepared with the latest products to help you protect it and your home!
Updated Wind Codes
A new building code is in effect and will help protect your home even more. Instead of homes being protected from 130-140 MPH winds the new code requires garage doors to protect you from 170-195 MPH winds. Depending on where you live (your relation to the Gulf and the height of your home) these wind speeds can vary, but rest assured if you're in the market for a new garage door you will receive the latest protection requirements.

The new code update doesn't mean that you need to rush out and buy a new garage door. If your door is less than 10 years old it's protection value is still high. However with the new codes in effect an older door may lead to a rise in home insurance costs.

Check out this video from Clopay that explains the strength of their doors.

Visual Inspection Guidelines

As we enter hurricane season it's always a good idea to give your door a thorough once over. If you find any issues it is important to fix them or schedule service with us so that your door is in top condition should a storm arise. Here's a list of things you can check yourself:

1. Door alignment and sections. Check for misalignment of door or door components, or evidence of damage including broken or cracked glass. Inspect the door sections, from inside and outside the garage, for any cracks, dents or buckling.

If you have holes or gaps in the door due to misalignment in sections or tracks, airways are created for wind to enter and exit your garage. The suction created from wind leaving your garage can pull your door right off its tracks, also causing severe damage to your property.

2. Door attachment. Make sure the jambs and header are properly attached to the structure and visually inspect for any looseness of fasteners or misalignment of the track.

3. Roller brackets and hinges. Check that all roller brackets and hinges are properly attached and are not loose.

4. Spring system. Look for loose cables or any apparent loosening of any other component of the spring system. Do not touch or attempt to adjust or repair the springs or anything to which door spring parts are fastened, such as wood lag bolts, steel brackets, cables, or other items. Springs can be very dangerous to adjust and repair yourself, we highly suggest calling a professional (like us) if you notice any problems.

Thanks for reading. If you find any issues during your visual inspection we offer an hour of service for $99.95 (plus parts) or you can call for a quote on a new garage door system. Make sure you check below for an special offer on battery backup operators!
