Sharing Success: Adaptive Rowing Training Opportunity
Adaptive Rowing Workshop for athletes and coaches. June 11th and 12th at the Argonaut Rowing Club.
The ROWONTARIO Adaptive Rowing Committee is excited to host a weekend of adaptive rowing, coaching, and, education this June. The goals of this workshop are to get the adaptive rowing community together to share ideas and experiences, to strengthen existing programs, help develop new ones, and support both adaptive athletes and coaches.
The weekend will focus on hands-on, practical, training and coaching, with an emphasis on boat and erg work. We will have adaptive equipment at the workshop, and participants should plan on trying out different riggings and styles of rowing. The National Adaptive Rowing Team is coordinating this weekend with ROWONTARIO, and the event will involve past and present NART coaches and athletes. Sessions within the weekend will include: athlete training and care, rigging and strapping, erg technique and training options, and on-water coaching ideas and strategies. The Argonaut RC has an accessible boathouse and boats will be available for LTA, TA and AS rowing.
The weekend is targeted at both recreational and competitive adaptive rowing. Coaches and athletes of all experience levels - absolute novice through experienced competitors are encouraged to attend. Individual sessions within the workshop will be tailored to participants' interests, goals, and past experience.
Registration is $100 per participant for both coaches and athletes and all participants must register ahead of time through the ROWONTARIO website by June 1, 2011. Bursaries to offset athlete and coach costs will be available. Details on bursaries and suggestions for accommodations in Toronto will be available through the ROWONTARIO website in the next two weeks.
