Deana Baker, Artist Guild Director

From the Director:

Summer 2011 ART Camp Big Success!

Thanks to all guild members who instructed, volunteered, or supported The ART Center's camp program. And, a special thanks to the many student counselors and to program director Cheryl Lecroy for a successful camp and the Culmination exhibit on Saturday, July 23.  If you have not been involved with art camp in the past, I hope that you will consider in the future. It is a very rewarding experience to explore, create, and exhibit with so many of our community's fine, young artists and be part of their artistic beginnings. I am always amazed at the impact a few  weeks at camp can have on the life of a child. And, teaching our community's children isn't just for summer. If you would like to instruct children's classes, especially on Saturdays, please let the Center's staff know.

With Fall 2011 fast approaching and calendars getting filled up, please take a minute to look at the Guild Calendar at the bottom of this newsletter, SAVE the DATES, and plan to attend or participate. ART

is HAPPENING all around us even though we are at the Center of it all. I just had to say that!  So, I encourage you to share with the Guild all of the happenings you think others will want to know about that will keep us inspired and working artists.

Please plan to attend the August 9 guild meeting. You are going to hear a lot about the events, ideas, exhibitions, and activities planned for the next year, and a wonderful program about Using Photography with your ART--presented by guild member and digital photographer/instructor Del Kimbler. This presentation comes during a great time as we are about to reveal our new Website at the Center and we need as many Artist Member profiles to include as possible. Please provide your bios, artist statements, and photos or provide the office staff with permission to use information from your personal Websites.

With our Guild activities increasing, it is time for us to form committees and get officer positions elected. We need to target the September and October meetings for nominations and reviewing nominees, then target elections of officers and committee chairs during the November meeting.
Please let me know if you are interested in serving on the Artist Guild nominating committee. One of the first committees we need to create immediately, is for taking charge of a new focus on exhibiting works of Artist Guild members in the upper and lower level hallways of the Center.  If you would like to serve as chair of this committee, please let me know.

Keep inspired,

Deana
