Welcome and thank you for joining the Artist Guild!
For our newest members or those who have not yet attended a meeting, let me paint you a picture. On April 12, only three short months ago during an artist membership meeting at The Arts Center, executive director Tommye Hurst introduced the interest for organizing an auxiliary of The Arts Center--The Artist Guild. . The first guild meeting held on May 12 was a dramatic, colorful splash of interest and support form 30 area artists. By May 21, a three day event "ARTS in Clemson" happened quickly and included a State of the Arts business luncheon, "Members Only" celebration of BBQ, Beer, and Blues Music, and the first annual Clemson Festival of Arts spotlighting works of Guild artists. Blend in member participation and involvement at a sculptor's exhibit at The Arts Center's gallery, various volunteer community art projects, exhibits at satellite galleries including Clemson City Hall and Clemson Little Theater, preparation and instruction for Summer Art Camp, ARTS Immersion, and fall classes, and you have a participating and supportive Artist Guild! As of the third meeting held on July 12, membership has reached a total of 62! With a firm foundation of memberships in place, the Guild's next important focus is to build upon organizational structure so we can benefit the most from upcoming artist opportunities and calendar of events. The ARTS Center ARTIST GUILD is truly a masterpiece--one created by an entire community of supportive, diverse, and talented artists working in unified collaboration with the outstanding staff, volunteers, board members, patrons, and supporters of The ARTS Center. As guild director and board member, I look forward to interacting with each of you and keeping us connected as inspired and working artists.
