Mark Twain wrote to his best friend of 40 years, after the death of his daughter:  "I do not want most people to write (to me), but I do want you to do it.  The others break my heart, but you will not.  You have something divine in you that is not in the other men.  You have the touch that heals, not lacerates.  And you know the secret places of our hearts.  You know our life--the outside of it--as the others do--and the inside of it--which they do not.  You have seen our whole voyage.  You have seen us go to sea, a cloud of sail--and the flag at the peak; and you see us now, chartless, adrift--derelicts; battered, water-logged, our sails a ruck of rags, our pride gone.  For it is gone.  And there is nothing in its place.  The vanity of life was all we had, and there is no more vanity left in us."

The Chinese are of the opinion that real authenticity is inexhaustible and reliable,

while discourse is uncertain and contradictory.  Like a silkworm, each of us,

in the course of our life, secretes the silken thread of our existence,

which is truly primary matter, stemming from spontaneous movement.

This happens between Heaven and Earth, because there exists a Way,

about which nothing can be said but that it reveals its virtue,

and through which all that takes place occurs.

Dearest One and All,

Thank you for your presence beside this ancient well of learning. Becoming Teachable to this Tradition...this is our guiding prayer...in our Time, with each other and those who come to us for help. We encourage you to pass this invitation on to any colleagues, friends, fellow students/travelers in this Classical Tradition that you believe might wish to join us. Please contact either Laura (stillpointacu@gmail.com) or Meg (chiya@gwi.net) with any questions, comments, requests.  The study group is alive, with and for each practitioner who is present and willing to share a dipper of water with us. With deep regard to each of you and to those that came before.   Laura and Meg and Noah
