Brambles should be cut away,

Removing even the sprouts.

Within essence there naturally blooms

A beautiful lotus blossom.

One day there will suddenly appear

An image of light;

When you know that,

You yourself are it.

To avoid confusion, practitioners bringing patients will participate as shadowers for a minimum of 1/2 day. It is particularly valuable to observe other practitioners as well. The Learning Community is established by participating practitioners. The Building of this Clinic is to service all patients who might need Our Services over time.

Practitioners bringing patients also pay Shadowing Fees.

We will do our very best to accomodate scheduling of your patients.

Patients for the Weekend Workshop Treatments will be invited from those who have come for Consults/Checks during the week.

It is strongly encouraged that practitioners come for the whole of the weekend workshop rather than piecemeal.  Didactic Teaching and Tutorials will be throughout the weekend. This is for the safety and continuity of the work.

Practitioners are responsible for gathering all fees (as well as missed appointments) for their patients

and giving them to Meg at the end of each clinical day.

The Virtue of Heaven/Earth:

A Training and Treatment Paradigm

The Discipline of Remembrance and Service

3 '3-day' Workshops

Theory and Clinical Application

There will be a formal introduction to this work at each of the 3 Workshops, as well as much deeper cosmological explorations,

working with xie qi, and Elucidations on Journeys 1-6.

Laura will begin to work with practitioners individually to understand the movement of these journeys in both the treatment room and their lives.

(Journeys 7-13 require a teaching contract more in keeping with traditional apprenticeships.  Laura is waiting until she is given permission to open this territory for teaching.)

For those among us who are called to develop our capacity, as practitioners and human beings, to become finer and deeper instruments of the The Divine/The Tao.

We work by virtue of the ancient alchemical classics of Taoist Medicine.

 From the Very Beginning.

These ancient protocols, Songs left for us now,

have particular relevance to the deep transformational work of Our Time.

Water is the manifestation of Heaven. This power also falls within us, "in an equally silent thunder." We call it "Virtue." This Virtue brings to life, develops and maintains the movement of each being. Its gift and receipt can be an observable, visible phenomenon. In its invisible aspect, it is the mystery to be contemplated, as if we were standing before a latticed doorway. (In order to see through it, we must know how to position ourselves, and how to receive the image that comes to our eyes.) The expanding power that stops right here, to make me into a being, can be compared to the cascading of the waters from Heaven. Here and there this gushing can be seen. The continuity of the impetus (of the yang movement) can be perceived in the changes, appearing as transformations. Throughout all these transformations, water remains the Virtue that gives life. The proud Virtue of Heaven consents to become the humble virtue of a man. There are thirteen stages, thirteen initiatory journeys, to indicate the changes and transformations. Where they meet-the theatre of exchange, the rendez-vous of the Spirits that hasten forth from Heaven-is the place where my life is rooted. This place is "I" wo, "my heart" wo xin.

Rooted in Spirit: The Heart of Chinese Medicine Claude Larre & Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallee pp. xiv-xvi

The Virtue of Heaven/Earth is a very LIVING and precise training program, a Gift from The Ancients, to develop our senses and our capacity for conscious awareness. 13 distinct passages, journeys, toward Mastery. To cultivate and heal the human heart. Rooting in the Spirits (Ben Shen) allows us to participate more consciously in the miracle of Heaven/Earth.  If you choose to learn this work, the journey you will be led on will differ from my own.

The Ancients have, however, left footprints and directions.

The River can be safely and carefully navigated back to The Source.

This we know. With utmost care.

Deep Listening and the Intimacy of the Heart our most treasured Gifts.

The Virtue of Heaven/Earth, as a training paradigm,

stems from the living tradition of

Classical Five Element Acupuncture

as taught by Prof. JR Worsley.  It was further developed as a teaching paradigm "Rooting Shen" by Niki H. Bilton, Master Teacher and long time

faculty member of the College of Traditional Acupuncture.

By Virtue of this Living Tradition, Laura Barnard Stelmok has with careful devotion

lived this gift and begins now to pass it through her hand.

The Virtue of Heaven/Earth is not a particular treatment protocol,

rather an invitation into the rigorous cultivation of yourself as practitioner of and for Life. A school that is not a school. It is an internal journey of practitioner development, often beyond conventional belief systems, to become a conscious instrument. It is not an external technique, rather an internal destination. There is no incarnate lineage to The Virtue of Heaven/Earth, but the footprints are found in many ancient esoteric paths to Truth and the Immortals who travel with The Ancient Songs bestow us with Teaching Immeasurable.

Current Practitioners in Training, some of whom have been working with us for over 5 years, come from different complementary/allopathic medical fields: acupuncture (5 element, TCM and Japanese), body work, cranio-sacral therapy, herbalism, massage, rolfing, hands-on spiritual healing, allopathic medicine for humans and animals. In addition to healers we also have among us working artists, sustainable gardeners, beekeepers and those who have washed up on this beach as patients and have stayed.

These longer and deeper treatments utilize ancient Taoist protocols and arise from the clinical work on Tues-Thurs. More rigorous clincial application and exploration of the spirit of this Tradition.  Treatments on these days generally work with much longer segments of time and practitioner training is rigorous.  The Art of Needling and Moxabustion, Treatment Planning and Execution, the Disciplines of 'to See', 'to Hear', 'to Ask' and 'to Feel'.  The capacity to ethically and maturely follow the movement of the Wild Magic of this Ancient Tradition.  To work with True Qi.

prayer flag

With the drawing of this Love
And the voice of this Calling

We shall not cease from exploration

And the end of all our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time.

Through the unknown, unremembered gate

When the last of earth left to discover

Is that which was the beginning;

At the source of the longest river

The voice of the hidden waterfall

And the children in the apple-tree

Not known, because not looked for

But heard, half-heard, in the stillness

Between two waves of the sea.

Quick now, here, now, always-

A condition of complete simplicity

(Costing not less than everything)

And all shall be well and

All manner of thing shall be well

When the tongues of flame are in-folded

Into the crowned knot of fire

And the fire and the rose are one.

She studied Acupuncture with JR and JB Worsley at the Worsley Institute of Classical Acupuncture in Florida and the College of Traditional Acupuncture in the UK, receiving a Licensure, Advanced Licenciate and Masters Degree in Acupuncture in 1992.  Laura continued her post-graduate clinical training with the Worsleys until 2001. She spent 5 intensive years studying Five Element Acupuncture and Rooting Shen with Niki Bilton, Master Practitioner and Teacher and more recently has studied with Jeffery Yuen, a Taoist priest, herbalist and acupuncturist.

Laura has been in private clinical practice since 1991. Her practice, Stillpoint, has been in Rockland, Maine since 1996. She teaches post-graduate 5 Element Theory and Clinical Supervision groups in Maine, Vermont and New York City. These advanced study groups began in 2006. The Teachings are alive, highly interractive, and the learning vibrant and rigorous. The teaching reaches toward practitioners still in training as well as senior practitioners who have been in practice for decades.

In addition to the practice of 5 Element Taoist Medicine, Laura collaborates with working artists bringing the disciplines of ancient medicine together

with the urgent call to the Muses of our Time.

She currently lives in Rockland with her husband and son.

Dearest One and All.

Our deep gratitude to you who sit with us at this Portal of Learning.

Those who were here before, those who are here now and those yet to come. Blessed Be.

We gather as physician's, as patients, as artists,

as teachers and students, as wayfarers.

Our sense returned.  Our Heart utilized.  Our minds disciplined.

To remember the Ancient Songs of this Tradition.

(They are so very needed here and now.)

To become Teachable to this Living Tradition of Medicine,

that we may become Servants to and for It.

As our disciplines strengthen we are able to extend our Hand to individuals in need with far greater depth and precision.  As individuals and as a group of devoted humans.

The clinical training remains at the center of our attention for both practitioners and patients.

For this collaboration there is no end to the happiness bestowed.

We encourage you to pass this invitation on to any colleagues, friends, fellow students/travelers in this Classical Tradition that you believe might wish to join us. Please contact either Laura (stillpointacu@gmail.com), Noah (nstelmok@gmail.com) or Meg (chiya@gwi.net) with any questions, comments, requests.

The study group is alive with and for each practitioner who is present.

With deep regard to each of you.   Laura and Noah and Meg
