Welcome to the first edition of the KidSport Ontario Newsletter!

 

We believe that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports. KidSport Ontario provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.

 

Rogers Sportsnet Gets Connected With KidSport

Rogers Sportsnet and KidSport Canada are teaming up to give more Canadian children the opportunity to get off the sidelines and participate in organized sports. The three-year partnership agreement will see Sportsnet contribute to KidSport's fundraising and sport activities across the country through public service announcements and event sponsorship. New Brand Identity for Sport Alliance of Ontario

The Sport Alliance of Ontario took a significant step forward in positioning the organization as a major sport management organization in Ontario. KidSport Ontario Receives Funding for Aboriginal Sport Initiative 

Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport

KidSport Ontario will be receiving $277,762.00 in project funding from the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport - Healthy Communities Fund over the next two years. The project focuses on getting urban Aboriginal children and youth, who are living off their territory reserve, engaged in sustainable physical activity through organized sport.

 

In partnership with the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres, J Smarts, the Forzani Group Ltd., the MLSE Team Up Foundation, Ontario Volleyball Association, Softball Ontario, and the Ontario Basketball Association, KidSport Ontario will be leading an initiative called the KidSport Aboriginal FunZone Project. Click here for more... 

 

It's Back to School for the KidSport \ OFSAA Grant Program

KidSport Ontario is happy to announce that its partnership with the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) will continue into its second year. The partnership is specifically focused on helping high school students in Ontario overcome financial barriers that are restricting their participation in school sports.

In the first year of the partnership 45 grants were provided to students from 25 different school's across the province totalling more than $6,600 given out through grants. The program is poised to significantly increase for the new school year. Click here for more... 

 

Mazda Canada and CanoeKayak Canada Program

Mazda Canada and CanoeKayak Canada have partnered with KidSport to provide kids facing financial barriers with the opportunity to join local canoe and kayak clubs. Though the KidSport Grant Program, identified children were given the chance to enjoy participating in a summer canoe and kayak program that introduced them to paddling.  

  

The official launch of the partnership took place on Saturday, September 11th, 2010 during the 4th Annual Mazda KnockOut race, at Ontario Place in Toronto. CanoeKayak Canada and Mazda Canada have committed $7,500 to the KidSport Grant Program. Click here for more...

6th Annual KidSport Charity Golf Classic

Raises Over $40,000 So All Kids Can Play!

The 6th Annual KidSport Charity Golf Classic presented by Mazda Canada and hosted by Scotiabank Dealer Finance raised over $40,000 to support the KidSport mission of ensuring all kids have the opportunity to benefit from sport. With over 130 golfers hitting the course at the prestigious Angus Glen Golf Course it truly was a great day! Click here for more...

Loblaw "Give a Little, Help a Lot" Campaign 

This past summer from June 24 to June 30th, KidSport partnered with Loblaw Companies Limited through their Real Canadian Superstores and Extra Food Stores in Ontario to bring awareness to the importance of children participating in sport regardless of
financial  circumstances. 

 

In Ontario the official total of funds raised from the "Give a Little, Help a Lot" campaign was $66,739.06. Click here for more...

Toronto FC and Team Up Foundation Join KidSport to Support Youth at Soccer Event 

KidSport Ontario, in conjunction with the Toronto FC's "TFC TWELVE" community initiative, held a soccer introduction event at the Cherry Beach Soccer Fields for local youth in Toronto from Regent Park, John Innes and Wellesley Community Centres. 

 

KidSport also announced their newest Team KidSport member, TFC goalkeeper Stefan Frei. Stefan's first act as a member of Team KidSport was accepting a $10,000 grant provided by the MLSE Team Up Foundation. This money will ensure more kids facing financial barriers to their participation will get the chance to play soccer. Click here for more...

2011 TPAAA Playground Games in Toronto

On July 20th the Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association (TPAAA) teamed up with KidSport Ontario for their annual Playground Games at Weston Memorial Junior Public School. TPAAA and KidSport Ontario, in conjunction with PROAction Cops and Kids, partnered together to put on a free and fun day for local children in the Toronto Police Departments 12th Division. The purpose of the day was to offer children who may not normally have the resources to play sports in their community, the opportunity to be physically active, healthy and enjoy sports for the day.
