Greetings!

Welcome to our Autumn/Winter Newsletter. We hope you had a successful season and your equipment has behaved itself, if not, you know where to come!

We are tremendously grateful for everyone that completed our recent survey. If you recall, everyone that participated was entered in to a prize draw to win a Putting Consultation with Jason Gilroy. Therefore we are pleased to annouce that the winner of this was Nigel Doughty.

And finally, we have packed loads of interesting articles, news & advice into this newsletter and we hope you enjoy reading it.

Some articles contain far too much information to put it all in this newsletter, so please click on the links where indicated for further reading.

Happy Golfing,

"Condition of Competition" Equipment Rule

As our commitment to ensure you get the most out of your equipment and game, we thought it would be a good idea to remind you of the future "Groove Rule Change" and how this will affect you.

 "Condition of Competition" Equipment Rule1

What has happened so far is that from January 1st 2010, all elite tours including the European Tour & PGA Tour must now use conforming grooves under the "Condition of Competition" rules.

To conform to the new regulations, manufacturers have to produce equipment that meets the "Condition of Competition" requirements which includes not only wedges, but irons too.

Weighting to hole more putts?

Weighting to hole more putts

Matching the weight & balance of your putter to your individual style of putting will inevitably help you to better control pace and ultimately hole more putts (provided you picked the correct line of course!).

With many putter manufacturers offering various weighting options, how do you know which one is correct for you? The first thing you need to do is select the correct length for your set-up & posture. Once this has been established, whether through matching an existing fitted putter or visiting a putter custom fitter, you will be in a much better position to choose the correct weight setting.

What I have found over the years of coaching putting and fitting putters, is that players with a slower smoother tempo generally benefit from feeling the putter head more i.e. heavier head, whilst faster swingers benefit from a lighter head weight. This being said, there are other factors to take in to account such as the speed of greens, type of putter and what feels good to you. Complimentary Follow-Up Sessions

At Precision Golf, we offer many additional services to our customers following a club fitting consultation. Selecting the right equipment for you is only part of the process, checking the loft & lie settings as well as the condition of your grips should be considered annually just like servicing your car to ensure performance is maintained.

Therefore, we offer this complimentary check-up to existing customers to ensure that the equipment built and supplied by us, will keep performing as intended.

However, you don't need to visit us just for this, if you are unsure about anything in the set-up of your equipment, just pick up the phone or email us and we'll book you in to discuss your issues with our Custom Fitting expert Simon Cooper.

New Monogramming Service Available

New Monogramming Service Available

Our new service of monogramming your clubs is now available allowing us to personalise your wedges and certain iron heads.

This is something you would normally expect to see on the equipment of Tour Professionals. We are now able to offer this technique to personalise your own clubs with initials, marking the loft allowing you to identify them if the numbers have been ground from the sole, or even marking your full, 3/4 or 1/2 yardage distances.

You can be as inventive as we have been! There are many various options with this new service, including the colour infill of your choice. To enquire about this service please contact the studio and speak with James.

Wedge bounce and its affects on your performance

Wedge bounce and its affects on your performanceDefinition: Bounce is the measurement in degrees of the angle from the front edge of a club's sole to the point that rests on the ground at address.

In wedges, the back half of the sole is lower than the front edge, cushioning the contact of club head and turf/sand and can greatly affect the way a club plays. More bounce will keep the club from digging too deeply into turf/sand whereas a low bounce angle allows the club to get into the turf/sand more easily.

The amount of bounce a player requires depends on both playing conditions and technique. Broadly speaking, if you play on courses with soft turf and soft, fluffy sand in bunkers then you will tend to need more bounce. If you tend to play on tighter, firmer turf (like a links course) or a course with firmer sand in bunkers then a lower bounce angle tends to work better.

New Equipment Reviews

New Equipment reviewsMizuno MP53 irons - a development off the MP52 irons with a little more forgiveness built in to the longer irons due to a slightly deeper cut-away design in the back of the club.

Ping Anser irons - Ping's first forged irons giving a softer feel that cast heads cannot achieve but incorporating a weight pad into the sole of the irons to lower the weight profile creating more forgiveness and a higher launch profile. There is also a hollow cavity in the base of the heads, further enhancing forgiveness and launch angle (Anser iron due for release mid-November).

Taylor Made Burner 2.0 irons - A thinner face to the irons increases ball speed off the club and the centre of mass has been located differently in each iron through the set to promote more forgiveness in the long irons and more control in the short irons with the aim of creating optimal performance in each part of the set.

Callaway Diablo Octane Fairway Woods - Very similar to the Diablo Edge series they are taking over from the standard and Tour heads produce very similar flight characteristics with the Tour model a low launch and spin head and the standard model deep

weighted for easy launch and greater forgiveness and low spin.

(Callaway Diablo Octane series are due for release at the end of the year, RAZR Hawk and RAZR X products are due for release in February).
