PureJoy

To check out an excellent two-page devotional on the topic, "Fruit of Joy," please click here.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1:2-4)

Look for some fun changes to the ePulse next week!

This Week's Opening Quote -

"When we quarrel, how we wish we had been blameless."
(
Ralph Waldo Emerson, American author, 1803-1882)

This Week's Scripture -
"Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD! (Psalm 119:1, English Standard Version)

This Week's Prayer -

"Lord, I have sinned. All have sinned and fall short of Your glory. I repent. Forgive me. Father, help me to submit to You, Your will, Your laws. Amen."

Last Saturday, former Des Moines Christian Football player Ethan Zepp ('12) became the first Northwestern kicker to kick a perfect 7 for 7 in point after touchdown attempts since 2000! Praise the Lord for Ethan's kicking abilities!

Iowa State University sophomore and DMC alumnus Ryan Schneider ('10) is part of the group of young people who gather under the Campanile on the Iowa State Campus to worship. Click here for the story. Praise God for Ryan's continuing heart for the Lord and worship!

We have a great opportunity in front of us to pray for our administrative staff and teachers. Over and over again, the Apostle Paul encouraged the Church to pray for one another.  He had first-hand experience knowing that, when we pray for each other, Jesus' love and grace will cover us, grow in us, and work through us.  Let's pour out our love to DMC teachers and staff through prayers for them.  We still need prayer intercessors for Elementary and Administrative staff.  Will you please say "YES!" to this indescribable blessing?  Right now, e-mail Mary Maltby, coordinator of this prayer covering.  Your task is simple.  Select a teacher/staff person or ask for one to be assigned to you.  Ask the Holy Spirit to prompt you often to pray for this person with prayers of praise, petitions, and thanks.  Connect with your prayer partner immediately through e-mail, but also periodically meet with him/her face-to-face, and pray over the person in his/her room or office.  Make yourself regularly available for prayer cover.  Let's come alongside, support, and love the people of God at Des Moines Christian School. Thank you! Important note:  Praise our faithful Lord! He is raising up the next generation to intercede.  Our Secondary staff/teachers are covered by 33 secondary students who are willingly committing to pray at this moment.  Acclaim Jesus!

Plan now to attend the Fall Association Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 24th,followed by our annual fall Open House from 7:15-8:00 p.m. for Early Education through Grade 12!

I was recently asked, "What is your vision for the 2012-2013 school year?"  Do you want to know my answer?  Please click here.

Did you know Secondary Principal Austin Temperley is working on his Ph.D. through Temple University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?! He is! And he's looking for a little help from you! Do you have any books which focus on the topic of servant leadership? He's doing a review of that literature, and he would love to tap into your good resources. Get your book/s to him, and he'll take care of them while he is working on this project for his degree. Thanks for your consideration!

The New Family Tailgater was a banner event!  The weather was excellent, a record number of new staff and families attended, and the food was tasty tailgate fare.  As the crowd of 175 people enjoyed hot dogs, grilling beans, chips, and cold beverages, we hope new friendships were forged.  Conversations, hand-shakes, and laughs all made for an enjoyable event.  We sincerely welcome all the new families and staff to Des Moines Christian.  We are delighted you chose DMCS! An extra special thank you goes to school parents and owners of ABC Sign and Display, Kevin and Phoelisa McGuire, for sponsoring the event. Their generous donation of a new event banner and their underwriting the cost of the food was greatly appreciated. Kudos go to all the staff, school board members, and volunteers who served at this event. Current school dad Tim Hall and son Owen, a DMCS sophomore, get a major pat on the back for packing and hauling all kinds of heavy stuff to the field.  Tim was the first to arrive and one of the last to leave after clean-up.  Credit goes to Janet Dreher, Kurt Lettow, Bret Duda, Rob Lane, David Swanson, and Molly Repp for lending a hand with our tailgater.  Your service was a huge blessing. Go Lions!

You need to know more about the life of Samona Yentes, Director of Development at Des Moines Christian.  Mona is an amazing person.  She is the youngest of 14 children!  She grew up in Southwest Minnesota. She and all of her siblings attended Christian schools, K-12!  Her parents were awesome people, supporting DMC, several other Christian schools, and numerous missionaries as well!  Mona is married to Kirk, an incredible man of God who has a very rich vocabulary as a fellow English major! Mona's degree is in Business/Marketing from Upper Iowa University. She's the mother of three DMC graduates -- Brian Smit and the former Molly and Melissa Yentes, both of whom are now very happily married.  Mona has answered the Holy Spirit's calling to two major vocational opportunities -- as a lobbyist for Iowa Right to Life and the Christian Schools in Iowa, and in her current position as DMC Development Director.  She is VERY skilled in navigating the murky and turbulent waters of the Iowa legislature, so she has been an invaluable asset when confronted with proposed legislation which is not spiritually and/or financially healthy to DMC; we are fortunate to have access to such a skilled "purveyor of politics," although she is definitely NOT a politician!  Mona loves the Lord, her husband, her children, her two grandchildren (Taylor and Jack), life, and Christian education.  I can't think of a person more sold-out for DMC and the cause of Christ-centered, biblically-directed education. I'm trying, but I can't catch up to her!  Now you know a bit more about Samona Yentes than what you might have known previously.  Please pray for her opportunities to convince others to invest their time, talents, and treasures in DMC!

We just wanted to update everyone on a special blessing the school will be receiving at the end of the year -- all through the Campbell's Labels for Education program!  This program allows the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) to purchase art, science, and physical education items for DMCS.  Some of the last items purchased were jump ropes, rubber balls, basketballs, and calculators. They have a contest going right now, during which any school that increases its label submission in the 2012-2013 school year by either 10%, 25%, or 50% from their previous year's submissions will receive a bonus of either 10%, 25%, or 50%!  Our account is currently at 4,495 points.  The amount we needed to hit the highest level awarded of 50% was 2,411 points. GUESS WHAT? Our students do not waste time!  We surpassed it now in the third week of school by 665 points!!!  Our 50% will be calculated at the end of the school year, and we will receive a 50% bonus of this year's total collected labels to be credited to our account on August 15th.  Now that's something to praise God about!! We love "free money!

All DMCS parents (EE-12th grade) are invited to join other PTF parents at our Box Tops Clipping Party on Friday, September 21st, at 8:30 a.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. Bring your scissors, and come meet other parents as we clip and process thousands of Box Tops which have been submitted since the beginning of the school year. You are sure to learn more about the Box Tops program and make new friends!

DMCS needs a lunchroom server who can work between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., 2-3 days per week. The job requires set-up of the food service line, serving lunches, and the clean-up and sanitization of the kitchen after the lunch period. The starting rate of pay is $8.50 per hour. To apply, please submit your complete application to Christy Christensen. Applications are available at the DMC website.

Are you ready to have some fun at DMCS?  Becoming a Homeroom Parent is fun and easy!   Put a smile on your child's face, and be a part of organizing the classroom parties.  Please contact Pam Baker at 250-5584 if you are interested or have questions.  PTF is here to help!

To make an online donation, visit our website . Click on "Donate online with Dwolla."
