"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1:2-4

This Week's Opening Quote -

"Believers are called in accordance with a settled plan and purpose of God, for whom He calls He had previously predestinated. God is at work causing all things to work together for good to those who love God, for the plan of God cannot fail." (Charles Hodge, Presbyterian theologian, 1797-1878)

This Week's Scripture -
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers." (Romans 8:28-29, English Standard Version)

This Week's Prayer -

"Lord, I love You. I truly do. I declare You as Lord of my life - over all parts of my life. In my mind, I know that You work all things together for my good. You have called me according to YOUR purposes, not my own. Help me to see your work, to join You in that work, and to honor and glorify You through completion of that work. I so desire to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus in the process of sanctification, Lord. So help me, God. Amen."

Are you looking for a full-time or part-time job? Do you love young children? Do you have a heart for teaching children biblical truth? Do you love a Christ-centered culture? Please call the Early Education Office to inquire about openings in Des Moines Christian pre-school and child care! We'd love to hear from you at 252-2482.

New families and staff - come join us for a complimentary New Family Night tailgater before the varsity football game on Friday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Johnston High School Stadium (6501 NW 62nd Avenue). Thank you for choosing DMCS!  We would like to get to know you better. Check in at the tailgater, and we will give each family member a complimentary admission ticket for the game.  Bring some lawn chairs, and come hungry!  Questions: Contact Peggy Lettow in the Development Office at 252-2496.

Anyone who has been the parent of an Elementary student certainly knows Elementary Administrative Assistant Carmen Kopf, but some of you new parents or Secondary parents need to meet her! Carmen is the wife of Steve, who has a very storied and successful past as a businessman, most recently as owner of Mr. Sandless Iowa, a hardwood floor refinishing company that serves both homes and businesses. I actually have a long history with Mr. and Mrs. Kopf. They were parents of Adam and Amanda, who both graduated from Urbandale High School when I was Principal at UHS! AND I have been blessed to be Superintendent when their younger daughters Stephanie and Sophie graduated from Des Moines Christian! (The Kopfs, who live across the street from UHS, used to help "guard" the school property during the shenanigans of Homecoming week!) The Kopfs are now empty-nesters, but they are active members of the Urbandale community, and Mrs. Kopf has certainly blessed all of us at DMC. Please take the time to say thank you for all of the ways that Carmen Kopf serves students, families, and staff at Des Moines Christian! Thank you, Mrs. Kopf!

DMCS needs a lunchroom server who can work between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., 2-3 days per week. The job requires set-up of the food service line, serving lunches, and the clean-up and sanitization of the kitchen after the lunch period. The starting rate of pay is $8.50 per hour. To apply, please submit your complete application to Christy Christensen. Applications are available at the DMC website.

Are you ready to have some fun at DMCS?  Becoming a Homeroom Parent is fun and easy!   Put a smile on your child's face, and be a part of organizing the classroom parties.  Please contact Pam Baker at 250-5584 if you are interested or have questions.  PTF is here to help!

Please remember to add the yellow Summer Reading Program Time Chart to your back-to-school checklist. We can't wait to see how many hours your student read this summer! PTF will announce the celebration party soon!

K-6 Grade Monthly Box Tops Contest -- The class with the most Box Tops each month throughout the school year will get to display the new Box Tops Traveling Trophy in the classroom.  The first contest is from August 29th-September 21st.  We will also draw 3 names each month to win a prize (with winners announced at the end of chapel on September 26th).  Be a Box Tops Hero, and bring in your Box Tops!!

McTeacher Night

Tuesday, October 2nd

4:00-8:00 p.m. at the McDonald's on 50th Street in Clive (11400 Forest Lane).

Ronald McDonald will attend.  (He is HILARIOUS!)

Elementary and Early Education will both be involved.

The Parent Teacher Fellowship is overseeing this event.

Elementary Principal Karla Lowe and I produced videos about the procedures with our new traffic pattern in the Des Moines Christian parking lot, so, if it helps you to both hear and see an explanation of the procedures, please click here. Mrs. Lowe and I appreciate the involvement of several DMC Moms and students who illustrated the new system! Thanks to all for your patience and courteousness as you contribute to a more safe and less frustrating car line experience!

DMCS Introduces Online Donations! Such is another giant step for mankind - and DMCS!  We can now accept online donations through Dwolla.  Unlike traditional payment networks or credit cards, which would cost DMCS 3-5% of every transaction, Dwolla processes payments for only 25 cents per transaction.  In addition, DMCS doesn't maintain any credit card information.  For the donor, Dwolla works similar to PayPal. To make an online donation, go to http://www.dmcs.org/donate. Click on "Donate online with Dwolla." On your first visit, you will be asked to set up your Dwolla account by transferring funds from your bank account or credit card to your Dwolla account. On subsequent visits, you will only need your Dwolla personal information number to sign in.  What an easy, safe, and convenient way to support Christ-centered education!

TGRE Logo

Two years ago, we studied great relationships through the filter of the Joseph the Dreamer. This past year, we look at life through Nehemiah's eyes. In 2012-2013, The Great Relationships Experience schools across the United States will take a markedly different path. America's Family Coaches and Des Moines Christian School are placing the six keys to godly relationships DIRECTLY INTO THE HANDS OF PARENTS! Moving forward, we are pleased to announce that TGRE will be available directly to you parents to utilize on your schedules, in your homes, and in your own creative and innovative ways through e-book format -- allowing for maximum exposure to families and true ownership of TGRE concepts by parents.

Senior Chapel typically happens in May, but the Class of 2013 switched things up, and in grand scale on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.  If you would like to read my summary of the chapel led by seniors on this day, "Legacy," please click here.

On Thursday, August 2, 2012, I was fortunate to be with nearly 1,000 men eating a delicious breakfast, receiving a book, and listening to Superbowl Champion Washington Redskin Coach and NASCAR owner Joe Gibbs -- all for free at the Downtown Marriott Hotel, sponsored by Pizza Ranch's corporate headquarters!  Free is good!  And there was great value in the nourishment, fellowship, learning, and exhortation.  Also, this event was closed to the public and focused on leading non-believers to a saving faith in Christ, NOT to a greater appreciation of Pizza Ranch.  If you would like to read my summary of Joe Gibbs' message, "Playing the Game of Life," please click here.

The message series on "Sports and Culture" continued at CrossTrainers on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.  If you would like to read my summary notes of the impactful message brought by former successful Des Moines Christian varsity boys' basketball coach Mike Swaim on that day, "Approaching Sports from a Biblical Perspective," please click here.
