PURE JOY WHENEVER! Des Moines Christian School's theme passage for the 2011-2012 school year was Proverbs 3:3-5, and the catchphrase, "Trust in the Lord," focused our attention on God as the source of our faith and trust. We are adopting a new passage for the 2012-2013 school year -- James 1:2-4 -- and the catchphrase is "Pure Joy Whenever." Can you "find" joy wherever and whenever you go? Is the joy pure (or tainted by inauthenticity or faulty motivation)? I call all of us to think about how we can find joy in spite of circumstances. As with Jesus and men like Paul, we can experience pure joy in spite of trials in our lives, because we know that the trials develop perseverance in our lives, and that perseverance will hopefully one day result in our being mature and complete before the Lord. Find "pure joy whenever!"

This Week's Opening Quote -
"God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure." (Eric Liddell, Olympic distance runner featured in Chariots of Fire)
This Week's Scripture - ". . .while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come." (1 Timothy 4:8, English Standard Version)
This Week's Prayer -
"Lord, I certainly know that physical training is of some value to me, and spiritual training holds promise for my life on earth and also for my life to come in heaven. But, in addition, I know You created physical activity, because every good gift comes from above, so I praise You for giving Des Moines Christian's student-athletes such amazing gifts, and I pray You will work in and through them as they represent Your Son, Jesus Christ! At this time, in particular, be with the softball players and coaches as they prepare for next week's Iowa State Softball Tournament. Shine the love of Jesus through them while they compete ferociously for Your honor and glory. Amen!" |

In order to refresh the content of summer newsletters, I have decided to regularly "introduce" the new 2012-2013 staff members to you. Meet the new junior high science instructor, Jason Parmerlee! Jason attended Christian schools as a K-12 and college student. He most recently taught at Ankeny Christian Academy. One of his references, a Christian school administrator, said, "He is phenomenal. . . . He was on our building leadership team. He's led his grade level team. He has great leadership skills. He's steeped in the Word of God. He's done well with differentiation; he recognizes the unique needs of all students. He works well with students and families. His love is science. I was impressed by him right away. He's very polite and very respectful; he has social graces. He has poise. He brings a lot of biblical integration to the classroom. He wants to learn. He implements good suggestions. He's prompt with assignments. All-around, he's a top-notch candidate. The kids respect him; they look forward to his class. He's discerning. He's very well spoken. His writing skills are awesome. He has extremely high vocabulary. He challenges students. . . ." Another reference stated, "He's such a godly man. He always does what's right. His love for kids is amazing. He's a great role model for students. A lot of kids really look up to him. He does really well with kids. He wants to help them spiritually, however he can. He wants to help students become like Christ. They can see Christ in him. Jason is the type of person who is never satisfied. He's open to what authority has to say about his teaching. He'd always want to know what he can do better. He wants to do the best for the Lord all of the time. His motive in teaching is serving the Lord. I'd hire him in a heartbeat!" Our interview committee pointed out the following strengths of Mr. Parmerlee:
- Approachable
- Discipler
- Able to bridge the curriculum from elementary through junior high to high school
- Open to learning
- Energetic
- Understands and lives-out biblical marriage
- Role model
- Carries burden of mentoring and teaching struggling students
- Hands-on with labs
- He'll take ownership of the position.
- He understands stewardship of God's creation.
- Gifted for his age
- Asked good questions
Looks like the junior high science students are going to have some excellent educational, relational, and spiritual experiences! Welcome, Mr. Parmerlee! |

We are a charter school for The Great Relationship Experience! Please keep investing in your relationships this summer - with Christ and with all of the members of your family!
Two years ago, we studied great relationships through the filter of the Joseph the Dreamer. This past year, we look at life through Nehemiah's eyes. In 2012-2013, The Great Relationships Experience schools across the United States will take a markedly different path. America's Family Coaches and Des Moines Christian School are placing the six keys to godly relationships DIRECTLY INTO THE HANDS OF PARENTS! Moving forward, we are pleased to announce that TGRE will be available directly to you parents to utilize on your schedules, in your homes, and in your own creative and innovative ways through e-book format -- allowing for maximum exposure to families and true ownership of TGRE concepts by parents.
America's Family Coaches will also open a new Teacher Forum for educators to use. AFC will provide a link to all current TGRE schools to allow DMC to connect openly about real classroom experiences and how to integrate the keys to godly relationships in the curriculum on a daily basis. It is AFC's hope that, through the Teacher Forum, administrators and teachers will be able to develop their own unique and viable TGRE experiences in their respective schools.
In light of these new steps, AFC will not be creating content for a new biblical hero for the 2012-2013 school year. Dr. Gary and Barb Rosberg will be evaluating what TGRE will "look like" in 2013-2014, and they are excited to support DMC in getting parents involved in TGRE. |

Closing Quote -
"Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off." (Bill Veeck, former eccentric Chicago White Sox owner)
