This Week's Opening Quote -

"Leadership is influence." (John Maxwell)

This Week's Scripture -

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6, New International Version)

This Week's Prayer -

"Father God, each of us, whether we acknowledge it or not, is a leader. We have influence. We can have influence for Your honor and glory. Help me to submit to and rely entirely upon You, Your wisdom, Your strength, and the leading of Your Holy Spirit. Help me to be a leader FOR YOU. Amen."

In order to refresh the content of summer newsletters, I have decided to periodically "introduce" the new 2012-2013 staff members to you.  I am pleased to introduce Austin Temperley to you today. Mr. Temperley (soon to be Dr. Temperley) will be the new Secondary Principal! He earned his social studies teaching degree from The University of Northern Iowa and Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. His doctorate is in-progress through Temple University. Austin taught for 5 years at Lakeland Christian in Florida, and he has most recently served as Secondary Principal and Teacher of Advanced Placement Microeconomics and Ninth Grade Bible at Harrisburg Christian in Pennsylvania for 3 years.

  • His boss in Pennsylvania told me, "What kind of bad things can I tell you not to pick him?! All of those things would be untrue. He's a mature believer. He loves the Lord. It's evident in all that he does. When he disciplines, he does so with his heart and discipling in-mind. This past year, he was asked to be the Chairman of his church elder board, and he's barely 30! He has youthful exuberance and a rock-solid faith. I've seen him challenge the faculty in a loving, caring, academic way. It's 'join me in the journey.' He's academically-minded but very down-to-earth and relational. Sometimes, you get that academic but lose the relational component; he has both of those.   I told if that, if something happened to me while I was on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, 'You're ready to do my job as Head of School.'   I would re-hire him in a heartbeat. He knows that, if he's not chosen in Iowa, he has a home in Pennsylvania."
  • His former boss in Florida said, "He's got a high motor. A professor in his Master's degree program told me he was one of the finest graduate students he had ever had n his years as a professor. He's committed to Christian schools. He has a lot of ambition to be used by the Lord. What you see is what you get. He's not bashful about trying new things or responsibilities; that speaks of his desire to leverage his influence for education and the Kingdom."
  • His senior pastor in Pennsylvania said, "This is a special guy. You don't have to watch over him to see that something gets done. It gets done. This is a young man who has demonstrated a great deal of integrity in what he does and a great deal of wisdom in his choices. He has a lot of insight. He has a great deal of ambition, but controlled ambition. It's not about him, but it's about the Gospel and the ministry which needs to be done. Whatever he puts his hands to he does well. He's got a very good marriage; they are very family-oriented. He looks younger than his maturity. He's highly-respected by people here. He's a wonderful guy."

Austin and Sarah Temperley are the parents of four children, ranging from 1 to 5+ years of age. He will begin his tenure at Des Moines Christian on or around June 24th. Please welcome the entire Temperley family to DMC!

I am so pleased to report that Des Moines Christian student-athletes Madeline Heer ('13), Brynn Reichardt ('15), and Abby Hart ('14) contributed to Urbandale High School's recent 3rd place finish at the State Tennis Tournament!  Madeline and her doubles partner also captured 3rd place overall in the doubles competition!  Congratulations to Coach Dave White, Madeline, Brynn, and Abby for their exemplary performances!

FINAL CALL: PTF invites you to our annual DMCS FREE Pool Party on June 16th from 6:15-8:15 pm at the Clive Aquatic Center.  Hope to see you there!! (DMCS dress codes apply to this event.)

FINAL CALL: Ultimate Warriors Summer Running Club is specifically designed for boys and girls entering 6th to 8th grade that meets at Dowling High School in West Des Moines. The program will teach the four pillars to effective running. The cost is $145 and will include the following:
