Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:

TRUST IN THE LORD!

Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:

Proverbs 3

Key Verses for 2011-2012:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."  (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)

Verses for the Week:

"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.  3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof 12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. 13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.  16Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand areriches and honor. 17 [Wisdom's] ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18[Wisdom] is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these - keep sound wisdom and discretion. . . 22.[sound wisdom and discretion] and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.23Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet 25Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes. . .26. . .for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. 28Do not say to your neighbor, 'Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it' -when you have it with you." 29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you. 30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm. 31 Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways, 32for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence. 33The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous." (Proverbs 3:1-33, English Standard Version)

This Week's Opening Quote -

"There are only two kinds of men: the righteous who think they are sinners and the sinners who think they are righteous."  (Blaise Pascal -- 1623-1662 -- French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer, and theologian)

This Week's Scripture -

"The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous.   (Proverbs 3:33, English Standard Version)

This Week's Prayer -

"Dear Father in heaven, I declare You as Lord and Savior of my life. The Holy Spirit is in me. I can be more righteous every day. I can be more like Your Son Jesus every day. Help it to be so. I no longer see myself as a sinner. I sin, and I seek Your righteousness. I pray that You will give me a thirst and hunger for righteousness. Help me to hate my sin as much as You hate my sin. So be it. Amen."

THANK YOU to all who participated in the Annual Benefit and Auctionon Friday night, April 13th.  I (Samona Yentes) never tire of hearing children recite God's Word or lift praises to His Glory through voice and instrument: each was done beautifully by Elementary students, the Praise and Worship Choir, Victory, the high school pianists, Praise Team, and Jazz Combo.  It thrills me to hear the heart of our faculty and administrators who so love the Lord Jesus and communicate that in the classroom and through their leadership: Thank you, Mrs. Jody Keithley (videographer Tyler Dreher, '10), Early Education Director Karla Van, and Dr. Stouffer. Thank you to Scott Oakes for his reflection on Christ-centered education and encouragement to support DMCS with our gifts.  A special THANK YOU to an excellent Auction Committee of Pam Baker, Holly DeFino, and Jolee Carlisle; a talented drama cast from Mission Possible; and generous bidders who drove our live auction to a record $38,940 to support the school!  StuCo students provided outstanding service throughout the evening. Finally, much appreciation to a great team - Events Coordinator Peggy Lettow and Marketing Coordinator Lisa Fitzgerald - and helpful volunteers, for pulling together the smoothest Benefit event ever!  Praise God for proceeds of nearly $100,000 to further Christ-centered education at Des Moines Christian School. To God be the Glory!  In Christ, Samona Joy Yentes, Development Director

From Dr. Bob:  You missed a grand celebration of Christian education and Des Moines Christian School at the annual fundraising benefit on Friday, April 13th.  Mark your calendar NOW for the second Friday in April of 2013.  You won't want to miss!  The food was fabulous.  The program was centered on Christ and DMC students.  The live auction was invigorating.  The fellowshipping throughout the evening was outstanding.  A good time was had by all.  Special thanks to Events Coordinator Peggy Lettow for organizing all of the benefit details, and her "assistants" Lisa Fitzgerald, Marketing Coordinator, and Samona Yentes, Development Director, for their wonderful team play!  Also, if you have not yet seen Tyler Dreher's film of Jody Keithley and fifth graders preaching an unvarnished Gospel message, click here to watch it. Thank you so much for all who attended the benefit, who participated in the program, who gave items for the auction, and who gave so generously to the school through the benefit activities.  If you would like to make a donation, but have not yet had the opportunity, there is still time.  Visit the office, or send a check to DMC, 13007 Douglas Parkway, Suite 100, Urbandale, Iowa, 50323.

DMC Day of Prayer -- May 3, 2012.  Please join the school community in prayer on Thursday, May 3, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Come, pray for the school, the Church, the communities, and the nation. Follow the signs to Mr. Jones classroom, room 202, which will be designated for parents, teachers, staff and kids to pray throughout the day.  It will be an "in and out" prayer room; come for 10 minutes or 2 hours.  Jesus is calling; no appointment necessary. Pray alone or with others in His presence.  Prayer guides will be available.  Questions?  Want to help?  Contact Mary Maltby.

Congratulations to Carly Grotenhuis, DMC '12, who was selected  as a member of the Iowa All-Star team, an honor reserved for the top senior players across the state in Class 2A.  We praise God for Carly's athletic talents, academic abilities, inner and outer beauty!

The men of CrossTrainers were blessed by a WONDERFUL message on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.  Wayne Simien was in town as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet speaker on Tuesday night, and he also executed a 360-degree slamma-jamma dunk on Wednesday morning!  Wayne is a former All-American at the University of Kansas basketball player who played several years in the NBA, including an NBA championship in his rookie season with the Miami Heat.  BUT GOD had a different career path for him.  If you would like to read my summary of Wayne's message at CrossTrainers, "Jesus: A Man's Man!" please click here.
