Editing and Periodic Writing by Dr. Bob Stouffer, Superintendent Development by Marilyn Wilson and Published by Lisa Fitzgerald
Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:
TRUST IN THE LORD!
Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:
Proverbs 3
Key Verses for 2011-2012:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)
Verses for the Week:
"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof 12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. 13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 16Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand areriches and honor. 17 [Wisdom's] ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18[Wisdom] is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these - keep sound wisdom and discretion. . . 22.[sound wisdom and discretion] and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.23Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet 25Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes. . .26. . .for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. 28Do not say to your neighbor, 'Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it' -when you have it with you." 29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you. 30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm. 31 Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways, 32 for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence." (Proverbs 3:1-32, English Standard Version)

Congratulations to Director Chad Parker and the High School Jazz Band on their excellent showing at this year's Jazz Championships on Tuesday, April 10th! The beauty and acoustics of the newly-remodeled Veteran's Auditorium showcased the DMC Jazz Band extremely well. All of the many soloists were great, the sections and overall band created toe-tapping experiences, and Mr. Parker is to be commended for putting such a fine ensemble in front of this audience as a representative of the school and Christ! The band finished 9th of 15 bands performing from the over 100 2A bands who could have qualified for the championships! Our DMC band received a well-earned standing ovation at the conclusion of their wonderful program. Keep up the great work, Jazz Band! |

I was so grateful for the leadership of the sixth graders and their teachers - Jahna Duda, Kathy Wagner, and Roxanne Wilson - during Elementary Spiritual Emphasis Week! Those students enriched our lives through the great and meaningful variety of chapel experiences on Monday through Thursday of Holy Week and the Monday following Easter Sunday! Very clearly, they were well prepared for each of the chapels. They no doubt came to understand how much effort and time is necessary to deliver first-rate programs like these. And they presented 5 programs! I loved the instrumental preludes, praying, singing, skits, props, posters, Scripture memorization, and all of Cortney Eklund's messages! Everything fit together so well as five parts to a whole. The sixth graders achieved great clarity in "preaching" the Gospel message in a language understood by children and adults alike in the chapel audiences. I wish more people could have experienced their high-quality chapels. These sixth graders were mature when they started this school year, and they have matured so much throughout this year. I am proud of them for your leadership and the positive spiritual impact they have had on the school as a whole! If you would like to read my summary of their final chapel, "Jesus, Others, and You!" please click here |

The Secondary theme for 2011-2012 school year is "Worldview." More specifically, we are attempting to help junior high and high school students develop a BIBLICAL worldview about major cultural issues. During the Secondary Chapel on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, the students and staff were blessed with biblical perspectives on politics by Bob VanderPlaats, Chief Executive Officer of the Family Leader. If you would like to read my summary notes of Mr. VanderPlaats' chapel message, "R-E-S-P-E-C-T!" please click here. |

In a nearby school (which will be remain nameless, but which is NOT Des Moines Christian), an elementary student (who will remain nameless) asked to see the school nurse (who will remain nameless), so the student's teacher (who will remain nameless) sent the student to the office with the following notation of the student's analysis of her health needs: "Brain feels warm when she thinks." That's my kind of student! All of the cylinders were firing at 100%! In this student's mind - pun intended-her brain was apparently warming to the point of explosion! The nurse wrote that the student's body temperature was 98.4, and she was sent back to class! I can't make this stuff up! Truth is always more interesting than fiction! |
