Editing and Periodic Writing by Dr. Bob Stouffer, Superintendent Development by Marilyn Wilson and Published by Lisa Fitzgerald
Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:
TRUST IN THE LORD!
Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:
Proverbs 3
Key Verses for 2011-2012:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)
Verses for the Week:
"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof 12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. 13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 16Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand areriches and honor. 17 [Wisdom's] ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18[Wisdom] is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these - keep sound wisdom and discretion. . . 22.[sound wisdom and discretion] and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.23Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet 25Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes. . .26. . .for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. 28Do not say to your neighbor, 'Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it' -when you have it with you." 29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you. 30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm." (Proverbs 3:1-30, English Standard Version)

This Week's Opening Quote -
"For sin is just this, what man cannot by its very nature do with his whole being; it is possible to silence the conflict in the soul, but it is not possible to uproot it." (Martin Buber, German philosopher, 1878-1965)
This Week's Scripture -
"Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm." (Proverbs 3:30)
This Week's Prayer -
"Lord, I must admit that my first contention is with You. I rebel. I oppose Your will. My sin causes me to be selfish. I work hard to silence the sin in my soul, but I cannot possibly uproot it. I need You. I so appreciate Your unconditional love and unending grace. One way I can avoid contending with others is to recognize Your love and mercy for me. While I was a sinner, You died for me. Amazing. Thank You, Lord. Thank You. Amen."

Rumors love a vacuum. Absent truth, people will invent details which become reality. Such has apparently occurred because I did not communicate an important event early enough this week. Toward the end of spring break, two former Des Moines Christian students admitted to starting a fire on the DMC playground. The fire destroyed a portion of play equipment, which will need to be replaced. Fortunately, a larger portion of the playground, wood chips, and building did not catch fire. Cliff Anderson, Supervisor of the Des Moines Christian property, came to the scene quickly, fully extinguishing the fire and staying well into the early morning in response to the incident. Members of the Urbandale Police Department and the arson investigator did an excellent job of investigating the incident. A couple DMC parents were also very helpful in initially responding to the emergency, securing information which led to the apprehension of the perpetrators, and also staying on the scene into the wee hours of the next morning to help with completion of the investigation. The guilty parties actually turned themselves in a few hours after the fire was extinguished. The young men have told investigators that this vandalism was not an act of anger against the school or school personnel. So now you know the facts of this case. We are pleased that the matter was resolved so well, and we look forward to fully-restored playground equipment in the near-future. I would like to publicly thank Mr. Anderson and these DMC parents for spending this unfortunate amount of time during spring break in the late hours of the evening, well into the next morning, to represent the school's interests. |

Is it important to you that your child develop a biblical worldview prior to his or her post-secondary education? Then Summit Semester may be an excellent option for your family. Summit Semester is a semester-long academic retreat offering young adults concentrated study in Christian thought and the history of ideas. In a secluded lodge in the Rocky Mountains, this institute is comprised of a small community of mentors and Christian scholars dedicated to helping students build good academic habits, live committed Christian lives, hone intellectual skills, and make life-long friends. Students take classes in church history, literature, political theory, art, culture, and Scripture, with an emphasis on relating these disciples to the big questions of human existence.
