Editing and Periodic Writing by Dr. Bob Stouffer, Superintendent Development by Marilyn Wilson and Published by Lisa Fitzgerald
Remember, spring break for students and their families is scheduled for March 17-26th. Teachers will be learning during in-service activities on Monday, March 26th. Child care services are available at DMC during spring break week days and the in-service day. Classes resume for students and teachers on Tuesday, March 27th. ENJOY YOUR SPRING BREAK!
Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:
TRUST IN THE LORD!
Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:
Proverbs 3
Key Verses for 2011-2012:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)
Verses for the Week:
"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof 12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. 13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 16Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand areriches and honor. 17 [Wisdom's] ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18[Wisdom] is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these - keep sound wisdom and discretion. . . 22.[sound wisdom and discretion] and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.23Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet 25Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes. . .26. . .for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. 28Do not say to your neighbor, 'Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it' -when you have it with you." 29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you." (Proverbs 3:1-29, English Standard Version)

This Week's Opening Quote -
This Week's Scripture -
"Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you." (Proverbs 3:29, English Standard Version
This Week's Prayer -
"Lord, I trust You. You are worthy of my trust. Father, I admit that I am seldom as trustworthy. I disobey You. I sin against You and others. Lord, help me to be more worthy of Your trust and the trust of others. Help me to be more trusting of others. Amen." |

Happy trails to you, until we meet again. Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then. Who cares about the clouds when we're together? Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather. Happy trails to you, until we meet again." Some of us are old enough recognize the lyrics of Roy Rogers' trademark song, "Happy Trails!" And now it is time for all of us to "sing" this song to outgoing Elementary Principal Jerry Clutts! What a blessing he has been to so many of us and to the school as a whole. I still have teachers lobbying for him to stay. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those staff members is wrapped around his ankles as he is leaving the building on his last official day - Friday, March 16th! I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God orchestrated Mr. Clutts' time with Des Moines Christian. When I was considering the options of an interim principal or all-out-search for a permanent replacement of Cade Lambert, God put Mr. Clutts in my mind. I knew Mr. Clutts. But I didn't know him all that well. His reputation was stellar. So I "tested the waters." As a result of my every meeting with him, and reference checks with so many trustworthy sources, my confidence grew - This was the man whom God had put in our path. And every detail of Mr. Clutts' tenure confirmed that truth. He graciously gave up his beloved golf game and said he'd serve from 6-12 months - whatever was our need. On his last day, he will have served 8 months, as we prepare for the new transition to Karla Lowe, starting Monday, March 26th. Mr. Clutts has provided outstanding spiritual and educational leadership during his short tenure, and we are grateful to God for his service! I think Mr. Clutts would enjoy the verse of "Happy Trails" which you will never hear in secular media: "Happy trails to you, it's great to say "hello". And to share with you the trail we've come to know. It started on the day that we met Jesus, He came into our hearts and then he freed us. For a life that's true, a happy trail to you." Happy trails, Mr. Clutts! |
| Congratulations to DirectorAshley Skinner, Assistant Director Emily Kothman, actors, actresses, behind-the-scenes support personnel, and all of the volunteers who pulled off MISSION: POSSIBLE! on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of last week! My wife Cheryl and I were blessed by the performance on Friday night. I always enjoy the family-friendly shows of Des Moines Christian. The highlight of the night for me was young Gabe sitting in front of us and giggling almost uncontrollably at the physical slapstick humor! I appreciated that members of the cast promoted the play by visiting elementary classrooms, which certainly increased the size of the audience. This had to be one of our biggest "box office hits" ever. One Mom informed me before the play that her son had seen one of these play snippets during the school day, and he had insisted they come to a performance; he refused to take no for an answer! I also love how our directors have always involved large numbers of students in the casts; the idea is participation and fun, not creating star status for any one actor or actress. That being said, we have some very talented performers! Thanks TO ALL who helped bring joy and laughter to my Friday evening after a busy and tiring work week! Praise the Lord for the talents and abilities of those in the performing arts! |

I, Dr. Bob, was blessed again this week with a remarkable statement from a student as he entered the main school entrance at the beginning of the day. This young man couldn't have been any older than first grade. He was bouncing energetically up to the front doors. He enthusiastically exclaimed to me, "Yo, D. Bob!" Now, some of you might take that as a disrespectful gesture. You might expect him to call me Dr. Bob or Dr. Stouffer or Mr. Stouffer. But I love the new nickname he has tagged on me! I wanted to respond, "What up, dog!" Sincerely, D. Bob |

I am pleased to report that University of Central Missouri Senior Lindsay Lettow (DMC '08) won a national championship on the second day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 10th at Minnesota State of Mankato, Minnesota. Lindsay earned her third national title after winning the indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon last year. The Central Missouri Jennies finished fourth in the team standings. Lindsay won the first two events in the pentathlon, setting the pace early, as her score of 4,193 points set a new NCAA Division II record. She nearly won a second title, with her second place finish in the high jump. Lettow cleared the bar at 1.75 meters before bowing out along with three other competitors. For a more complete article about Lindsay's performances, including statements by her and her coach, Olympic Decathalete Kip Janvrin from Panora, check out this article. In addition, I am pleased to announce that Lindsay has ONCE AGAIN been named the Division-II National Track and Field Athlete of the Year! Boundaries build strong walls of defense from attacks against our marriages, families, and each of your students' relationships. As you tenderly nurture the buds of your students' current and future relationships, we encourage you to dive deep into the story of Nehemiah. You will find Nehemiah is coming against attack from all sides, but he trusts the hand of God in his life. He instructs the people to go to work with swords in one hand and tools in the other. Nehemiah recognized the need for strong boundaries, and the people of God flourished because of his obedience. For more on Nehemiah's story and how to instruct your students, visit the March TGRE link today.
