Editing and Periodic Writing by Dr. Bob Stouffer, Superintendent Development by Marilyn Wilson and Published by Lisa Fitzgerald
Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:
TRUST IN THE LORD!
Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:
Proverbs 3
Key Verses for 2011-2012:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)
Verses for the Week:
"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof 12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. 13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 16Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand areriches and honor. 17 [Wisdom's] ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18[Wisdom] is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these - keep sound wisdom and discretion. . . 22.[sound wisdom and discretion] and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.23Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet 25Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes. . .26. . .for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it." (Proverbs 3:1-27, English Standard Version)

This Week's Opening Quote -
"History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people." (The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)
This Week's Scripture -
"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it." (Proverbs 3:27, English Standard Version)
This Week's Prayer - "Lord, it can be so hard to act against the tide of evil in this world. I get tired. I don't want to offend. I don't want to be the lone voice in the wilderness. It is so much easier to go along to get along. But, Lord, I know this is not my real home, and I must give witness to You and the pure good for which You stand. So, Lord, help me to stand -- and, when I am tired, fearful, or anxious -- to keep on standing. Let me do good even when that good is unpopular and ridiculed. So help me, God. Amen." |

Congratulations to the junior high Lion's Pride award recipients for 1st and 2nd semester!
Eighth graders were Sara Boesen, Maria Crook, Bethany Dadisman, Maddie Emmerich, Jake Lowe, Christian Minor, Tommy Shisler, Kelsey Tope, and Jonathan Weaver. Seventh graders were Emma Boley, Camryn Grider, Emily Manderfield, Emma Mayse, Mariah Mayse, Jaren Ruble, Grant Veurink, and Beth Zimmer. Lions Pride award recipients are nominated, and five core team teachers evaluate the nominees in the following areas: for preparing academically, serving wholeheartedly, and working diligently. Award recipients then are asked to answer the following questions in writing: What is God doing in your life right now? Tell us a fun fact about yourself. What do you like about DMCS? What do you want to do after you graduate from DMCS? Answers are posted next to their pictures on the Secondary information bulletin board. |
| Scholastic Book Fair Profits Up This Year! Mrs. Albertson would like to thank all of the Des Moines Christian School parents and students who made this year's book fair a rousing success! Our profits were up, giving us about $2,000 more than last year for library books! Thank you to the parent volunteers - who helped check shoppers out - and to the student volunteers who helped wherever needed. Your help was invaluable to keep our fair running smoothly. We spread the fair out this year, and people seemed to appreciate the extra room to look around. Scholastic's motto, "Read every day. Lead a better life," is certainly true in the lives of our DMCS students! |

The Student Council will be sponsoring Des Moines Christian's 2nd annual blood drive on Monday, March 5th. Our goal is to surpass our number of units from last year, which was 29. That means we need 40-50 people signed up to donate. Donors must be at least 16 years of age and weigh a minimum of 120 pounds. If you would like to participate, call Laurie Zepp in the Secondary Office at 252-2490 to get signed up. Where else can you spend 15-20 minutes and save three lives?! What a great (and easy) way to make a difference! |

Are you looking for a night of side-splitting laughter and quality, family entertainment? The DMCS Drama Department has just the thing - the spring play, Mission: Possible! Scientist Dr. Schlock has discovered the valuable secret of telephonetics, the power to control minds over the telephone. Just when he thinks he has found someone to finance his research, he and his daughter Carley are kidnapped by the archvillain Silverthumb, who plans to use the power to control the whole world! Carley and Dr. Schlock are taken to Silverthumb's 10th century English castle, which is complete with a medieval torture chamber and evil, cold-hearted sidekicks. Maxwell Sharp, Agent 98.6, James Blond, and many more contemporary sleuths are called to the case by British intelligence to prevent Silverthumb's devious plot from unfolding. Alas! If only the instructions hadn't self-destructed before indicating the details of their mission! What will happen to Blond, James Blond, and his fellow agents??!! To find out, come see this over-the-top comedy performed by impressive and talented DMCS students. Mark your calendar for one (or all!) of the performances on March 8, 9, and 10 at 7:00 p.m. with an additional 2:00 p.m. matinee on the 10th. Tickets will be available in the Secondary Office, starting on March 1st and at the door before the show. Adult tickets are $8; senior citizens are $6; and students are $5. The production is at Jordan Park Camp, 2251 Fuller Road in West Des Moines. Don't miss this hilarious battle of good versus evil. We will see you there! |

Boundaries build strong walls of defense from attacks against our marriages, families, and each of your students' relationships. As you tenderly nurture the buds of your students' current and future relationships, we encourage you to dive deep into the story of Nehemiah. You will find Nehemiah is coming against attack from all sides, but he trusts the hand of God in his life. He instructs the people to go to work with swords in one hand and tools in the other. Nehemiah recognized the need for strong boundaries, and the people of God flourished because of his obedience. For more on Nehemiah's story and how to instruct your students, visit the March TGRE link today:

Are you concerned that your graduating senior may not quite be ready for college? Would you like your student to be strong in the faith and the Lord? Is it important to you that your child develop a biblical worldview prior to his or her post-secondary education? Then Summit Semester may be an excellent option for your family. Summit Semester is a semester-long academic retreat offering young adults concentrated study in Christian thought and the history of ideas. In a secluded lodge in the Rocky Mountains, this institute is comprised of a small community of mentors and Christian scholars dedicated to helping students build good academic habits, live committed Christian lives, hone intellectual skills, and make life-long friends. Students take classes in church history, literature, political theory, art, culture, and Scripture, with an emphasis on relating these disciples to the big questions of human existence. Family-style meals, in-depth discussions, work projects, and sports contribute to a communal atmosphere that fosters growth. Summit Semester is a unique opportunity for a student to step back from the usual educational trajectory and reflect on the whys of study, work, community, and faith.
