Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:

TRUST IN THE LORD!

Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:

Proverbs 3

Key Verses for 2011-2012:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."  (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)

Verses for the Week:

"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.  3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof 12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. 13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.  16Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand areriches and honor. 17 [Wisdom's] ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18[Wisdom] isa tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these - keep sound wisdom and discretion... 22[sound wisdom and discretion] and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.23Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet 25Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruinof the wicked, when it comes..." (Proverbs 3:1-25, English Standard Version)

This Week's Opening Quote -

"I have, indeed, no abhorrence of danger, except in its absolute effect -- in terror. (Edgar Allan Poe)

This Week's Scripture -

"Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes..." (Proverbs 3:25, English Standard Version)

This Week's Prayer -

"Lord, the world sometimes seems to be crashing down upon me. In such situations, I am given to great concern, fear, anxiety, and perhaps even terror. But why should I fear, Lord? You have told me You will never leave nor forsake me. In my weakness, You are strong and mighty. Even if facing earthly death, I know everlasting life is secure for me. My terror should be for the ruin of the wicked. My terror should be for those people who do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives. Lord, allow me to live in the security of Your love and sacrifice for me, witnessing to others who so desperately need Your saving power. Amen."

The Big Blue Bash is tomorrow! The BBB is a fun event for the whole family! This year, the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) is giving away something spectacular - an iTouch! We also have a contest to name the new Lion Cub in our approved Elementary logo. Submit your idea for a name at the blue table in the Multi-Purpose Room.  We are still in need of volunteers for a variety of activities, including donating cakes for the cake walk, so please sign up on the DMCS website. Also, any donated items for the class baskets may be placed in the bins outside your child's classroom for the Big Blue Bash basket drawings. Tickets go on sale next week, so be sure to get your tickets! Please go to the website for more information. On Friday, February 17th, everyone should wear BLUE or DMCS Spirit Wear to gear up for the Bash! MANY volunteers are still needed, as well as items for the baskets.  Time is running out, so PLEASE sign up to help and bring donated items! Thank you!!

Hey, all you Iowa State University fans, I (Dr. Bob) want to tell you about a very positive experience with the Cyclones on Thursday, February 9th.  I was interested in hearing Dr. Steven Leath, the new Iowa State University President, speak at the downtown Rotary Club meeting today.  The meal at the Downtown Marriott was excellent.  I was able to sit next to one of my favorite people, DMC grandfather Al Gross.  And Dr. Leath was outstanding.  He was impressive with his message AND question-and-answer period; his comments were thoughtful, and he thinks very well on his feet.  As I hoped, I was able to meet him, hand him one of my business cards, and say, "If you ever need the input of a non-public school person, do not hesitate to call."  He seemed receptive to that idea, especially since he had invited anyone in the audience to reach out to him.  You Cyclone fans should be VERY proud of your new leader.  He's a class act who is seeking hard after partnerships which will improve the quality of education for ISU students AND improve the quality of life for everyone in the Ames-Des Moines corridor and the State of Iowa as a whole.  I'm still a Hawkeye at heart, but Dr. Leath convinced me today that I should be a fan of ISU and him.  Go, Cyclones!  Go, Hawks!
