REMEMBER - NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 16, 2012 - A DAY OF LEARNING FOR OUR TEACHERS (IN-SERVICE)

Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:

TRUST IN THE LORD!

Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:

Proverbs 3

Key Verses for 2011-2012:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."  (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)

Verses for the Week:

"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.  3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof 12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. 13Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 16Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand areriches and honor. 17 [Wisdom's] ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18[Wisdom] isa tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20by [God's] knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew." (Proverbs 3:1-20, English Standard Version)

The balance goes directly to the baker to pay for the cookies. Cookies will be on sale in the Multi-Purpose Room after school on January 18th through the 20th. If you would like to purchase cookies, but can't make it during these times, please contact Debby Koster. Thank you for supporting the DMCS Kindergarten Girl Scouts!

Praise the Lord that we are enhancing our security and safety at DMC as a result of a donor's generosity!  Beginning in January, Early Education parents will access that area of the building with fobs, since the location will be locked-down completely.  Also, we will begin limiting access to both the Secondary area and Elementary area by containing traffic to the handicapped-accessible door only at 9:00 a.m.  That way, the bad guys who don't know our building access well can be limited in their access.  (Please do not share this plan with others -- for the safety of your children.)  Coaches, P.E. teachers, and Secondary music instructors will also be limited by fobs and asked not to block open the brown doors near the trophy cases.  Thank you for learning our new "flight patterns" in the school.  Limiting access means greater safety for your children!

Iowa students are invited to apply for a seat on a new state advisory council formed by Iowa Department of Education Director Jason Glass. The Learning Council will be made up of 15 students and will focus on three key areas: highly effective educators, high expectations for all students with fair measures for results, and innovation that boosts learning.  Students enrolled in Grades 8-12 from public and non-public schools in Iowa may apply for a seat. Meetings will take place in March, May, September, and December. Council members also will communicate via e-mail. See Mrs. Kostek for more information.

Ag Enhancement Scholarship:  An applicant must be going into an agricultural business related field.

Iowa Engineering Society Scholarship:  An applicant must be a high school senior interested in pursuing an engineering degree and attending either Iowa State University or The University of Iowa.

The Rotary Club has again partnered with Iowa Energy Basketball to help raise funds for the eradication of Polio worldwide.  You may know that Polio exists today in only four countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Nigeria.  A 60 cent immunization will keep a child from contracting polio.  To this end, Iowa Energy will give the Rotary Club $8 for each ticket Des Moines Christian sells to the Saturday, January 21, 2012 7:00 p.m. game against the Tulsa 66ers.  In addition, Iowa Energy has priced their sideline $20 tickets at $16 for Rotarians and their friends.  Therefore, purchasing five tickets for $80 would provide Rotary's Polio Eradication effort with a $40 rebate from Iowa Energy, and, more importantly, immunize 66 children from the polio virus.   In addition to all the above offer, one of the NBA's leading halftime shows, "Chicago Boys Acrobatic Club," will be the halftime entertainment.   Please contact Dr. Wendi Wilson, if you would like her to hold some tickets for you.  Thanks for your consideration and support of this humanitarian and worthwhile endeavor.  For more information, contact Dr. Wilson at 971-3453 (cell) or Ed Arnold at 515-979-6215 (Des Moines cell phone). Check out the website.
