Theme of the 2011-2012 School Year:

TRUST IN THE LORD!

Memory Scripture for the 2011-2012 School Year:

Proverbs 3

Key Verses for 2011-2012:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."  (Proverbs 3:5-6, English Standard Version)

Verses for the Week:

"1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.  3Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones 9Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10then your(A) barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof"  12for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights."  (Proverbs 3:1-12, English Standard Version)

This Week's Opening Quote -

"In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back." (Charlie Brown, a character of Charles Schultz)

This Week's Scripture -

". . .for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights." (Proverbs 3:12)

This Week's Prayer -

"Lord, I again pray for Your reproof this week when I need to be chastened for outright disobedience or failure to act in accordance with Your will.  Father God, I know I am to live-out the truth of Your Word, but I fall short so many times.   Help me act obediently -- not out of compulsion, but in sincere appreciation for everything which You have given to me.  I was born because of You.  I was born again because of You.  Help me to live, learn, and change my behavior -- under the power of Your Spirit -- so I can conform to the likeness of Jesus Christ.  Amen."

Congratulations to Coaches Craig Carlson, Jeff South, Mark VanderVelden, Ric Radcliffe, Chris Zepp, and Scott Sammons!  Congratulations to the 9-2 Lions for their outstanding, once-again record-setting season!  The coaches and student-athletes represented themselves, the school, their families, and Christ well throughout the 2011 season!

Des Moines Christian took All-State vocal auditions by storm this year!!  Shelby Gates, Ian Troll, Eric Larson, Albert Gustafson, and Mae Dunker were selected to join hundreds of elite singers from all over Iowa as members of the 2011 All-State Chorus!  Elizabeth Hendricks was also recalled during auditions.  Secondary Vocal Music Director Sarah Selby stated, "It was fantastic!  To God alone be the glory!  I'm so proud of our vocal music students.  They put in a lot of time and effort, and it showed." Praise the Lord for the excellent accomplishments of Miss Selby, Shelby, Ian, Eric, Albert, Mae, Elizabeth, and all of the other DMC students who showed the discipline and courage to audition to be All-State musicians!

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes. Yet the impact of OCC goes far beyond smiles and laughter. These simple gifts become gospel opportunities, opening hurting hearts t o experience the transforming power of Jesus Christ. God has done a mighty work through this ministry and we are excited to be able to collect prepared shoebox gifts from DMC students who are willing to lovingly prepare them.   A brochure detailing the process of packing a shoebox will arrive in each students School-Home-School folder. Students and parents who choose to complete a shoebox should bring their filled and ready-to-go boxes to school on November 16th. (Secondary drop-off is Nov. 15, and brochures are available in the Secondary Office.) On the day of the chapel, students will bring their shoeboxes to the front of the Multi-Purpose Room, where the boxes will be prayed over and then delivered to the state collection center located in Urbandale. In order to make the task more convenient, red and green OCC boxes are available to take in the office, free of charge. Questions? Contact Laura Oswald at 681-6157 or laura.oswald@tlpropertiesllc.com.
