"I struggled for over four years, trying to get away from my abusive wife. The kids were suffering. It was affecting every part of their lives...school, socialization, sleep patterns. I tried to leave so many times, but had trouble obtaining a job because of childcare issues. I felt hopeless and guilty when I saw what this was doing to them."
During Sam and his children's stay at A New Leaf's Autumn House Domestic Violence Shelter, he demonstrated how successful a man can be in a communal living environment. He was a gentleman and concentrated on providing his family with everything they needed. With the help of the staff:
- He finished DV 101 and parenting groups
- Attended a job skills building workshop with Maximus
- Finalized his divorce and established full legal custody of his children
- Was accepted into a transitional housing program
- Secured childcare
- Put all of his children in individual counseling, providing immediate positive results
Sam left Autumn House positive about job prospects and optimistic about his family's future. Sam is a perfect example of what YOUR support can do for a family.
