"Everything I owned came from a dumpster before I entered A New Leaf's EVMC mens' homeless shelter.

"I'm not sure how I got here. My parents were professionals and my sister graduated with a master's degree in psychology. But I could never seem to get it right. I mean anything...school, relationships, jobs. I was a failure.

"Eventually, I was diagnosed with a mental disorder and at 40 yrs old, entered a training program at the Marc Center.

  • I'm on meds now and living at EVMC men's homeless shelter.
  • I feel stable and focused.
  • I'm working at a local hospital and studying to become certified in merchandising.
  • For the first time in my life, I'm on a budget and have been able to save some money - $5,000.

"Saving is highly encouraged at East Valley Men's Center. Sustainability is the word they use for the kind of independence they prepare us for. I'm improving my life skills and I haven't felt this good in years. I am truly grateful.

"My next step is to try to earn back the respect I lost from my kids. I need them and I believe they need me too, now that I'm whole. Thank you A New Leaf."
