Twice the Impact
Beautiful 7-year-old twins, Kiera and Katie are fortunate to have an aunt in Arizona who refused to passively sit back and allow these children's lives to be destroyed as a result of a past abusive environment.
How it works...
Kiera and Katie entered A New Leaf's PACTT (Parents and Children Teaming Together) program June of 2010 while living in a CPS foster home. They have independent personalities and are both very endearing and polite. PACTT was invited to work with the sisters and their Child and Family Team (CFT) to address issues with personal boundaries and trusting strangers. Kiera and Katie have been receiving therapeutic and psychiatric care with A New Leaf since August of 2009.
Through the use of positive behavioral support methods, PACTT workers have been addressing how the twins can build healthy relationships with each other as well as appropriate social skills and boundaries in community and school settings. These goals are intended to assist in achieving success in school, avoiding delinquency and becoming stable and productive members of their community. This program aims to provide the support needed to keep children like Kiera and Katie out of residential treatment and other out-of-home placements due to the girl's high-needs behaviors.
To accomplish this success, A New Leaf staff had the opportunity to observe and prevent dishonest storytelling and lying behaviors. PACTT also assisted the girls with learning more appropriate boundaries, to be more aware of their personal space and how to express appropriate physical contact. They have increased their truth-telling skills with their peers and school teachers. Lastly, the girls continue to self-monitor and interact with their peers appropriately and achieve academic success as reported by teachers and other caregivers alike.
Recently, Kiera and Katie graduated from PACTT as they are meeting goals and achieving success in all areas of their development. Kiera and Katie will be returning to Dallas to join their mother before the New Year, as she has completed steps required by Child Protective Services, as well.
It is a rewarding thing, to witness the achievements accomplished through A New Leaf programs. Thank you for your support. It puts you right beside us in spirit, as we work with these precious children.
