Business Matters

In May, we had Faithe Thomas with Master Design Marketing to join us again.  She talked to the attendees about what it takes to get to the top of the list; Internet listing that is.  Did you know that if you have a business, it is listed on Google whether you have a website or not?  Faithe explained to the audience how Google gives every business a Google place page.  However, it is up to the business owner to login in and claim it.  Claiming it helps you move closer to the top of your business' category list. This was one huge piece of information that our guest learned that they could take back and use right away.  Join us on June 21 when Jason Kizer, with AmeriClear Rx, will be our guest speaker.  You don't want to miss this, especially if your company is self insured.  We will see you at the next Business Matters and bring a friend!  Like us on FaceBook!

Recovery Centers for Lake, Obion Counties Closed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Federal Emergency Management Agency Disaster Recovery Centers in Lake and Obion counties closed Friday at 8 p.m., but disaster survivors may continue to register for assistance and help will be only a phone call away.

Disaster Recovery Centers offer survivors a one-stop location for information to help them through the recovery process. Visiting a Recovery Center is not required to register for assistance from the FEMA.

Individuals and business owners may continue to register and get help:

  • By phone, call the FEMA Helpline, 800-621-FEMA (3362) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.CDT. Assistance is available in many languages. Those who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have a speech disability may use TTY 800-462-7585
  • By computer, go online to www.DisasterAssistance.gov
  • By smartphone or tablet, use m.fema.gov

Survivors can also use the Helpline and website to follow up on their applications and get help with any paperwork they receive from FEMA or the U.S. Small Business Administration.

SBA provides low-interest disaster loans for eligible homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofit organizations. For information, call 800-877-8339. The TTY number is 800-877-8339. Online, go to www.sba.gov. and click on the disaster loan link at the left of the page.

Several other Tennessee Disaster Recovery Centers remain open. Disaster survivors may go to any center for assistance. To locate other centers, go to www.fema.gov/drclocator.

Disaster recovery assistance is available without regard to race, color, religion, nationality, sex, age, disability, English proficiency or economic status. If you or someone you know has been discriminated against, call FEMA toll-free at 800-621-FEMA (3362). For TTY call 800-462-7585.

FEMA's mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.

FEMA's housing assistance and Other Needs Assistance grants for medical, dental, and funeral expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be considered for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.  Applicants who do not qualify for a SBA loan may be eligible to receive Other Needs Assistance grants for these items.
