Branding for the Small Business continued...

Branding for a small business is creating a "look" and/or "feel" that is consistent in all aspects of your business from how you greet your customers, the quality of your product or service, marketing materials to online.

Branding takes time. It goes hand in hand with establishing a reputation for quality and reliability. Whether you want your brand to be professional, warm and caring or funky and fun, the forethought in your marketing strategy with serve you well in the long run.

So, what does that mean? Here are a few simple tips:

  • Establish a marketing strategy or WHAT you want to say, a mission statement. For example: We want our clients to feel welcome when they come into our store. We want them to know they will get friendly service and affordable prices every time they come.

  • Establish a marketing plan or HOW you are going to convey that message. For example: All staff will be trained to greet customers consistently in a warm, friendly manner; marketing materials (logo, brochures, etc) will have warm colors that give a "feel" of welcoming; our website will be easy to use keeping the same warm colors as all other materials, etc.

Taking the time to outline a simple marketing strategy and plan will make it easier to make marketing decisions. This is just a real "down and dirty" idea of the concept but running a small business is hard work where we need to get to the point real quick.
