ATHLETIC EGRAM FOR APRIL 27, 2012

NEWMAN SPRING ATHLETIC TEAMS HAVE SUPER NIGHT!
Newman Catholic has outstanding spring athletics as evidenced by performances on Thursday night, April 26, 2012.  All seven of the spring sport teams competed with several teams securing key victories.  The following is a summary of the competitions.
GIRLS SOCCER TEAM TAKES OVER FIRST PLACE IN CONFERENCE!
Carly Maves scored the winning goal as Newman defeated Rhinelander 1-0.  The victory moved the team into first place in the conference.  The showdown of unbeaten conference teams was an important contest.  Solid defensive play was the key to the game along with excellent team play.  The victory puts our team one-half game up in the standings over Rhinelander.  Way to go!
BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK CONTINUE TO ROLL!
The track team continues to turn in dominating results with several invitational championships this season.  Thursday night, the Newman track teams won the ten-team Auburndale Invitational for both boys and girls.  Super performance by all of our track athletes!

BASEBALL TEAMS DOWNS AUBURNDALE 2-1.
Using their left handed ace Nick Janke, the Newman Catholic Cardinals won their second conference game this week over visiting Auburndale.  Earlier this week the team downed Northland Lutheran, 4-2.  Jacob Schneider's sacrifice fly to left field scored Nate Prososki from third base in the bottom of the 6th inning for the winning run.  Nick then struck out the side to secure the win.  Excellent work!  Next up will be Edgar at home this Friday.  Game time is 4:45 p.m.

SOFTBALL TEAM SHUTS OUT AUBURNDALE 1-0.
Brianna Jankowski struck out thirteen batters as the Lady Cardinals defeated conference opponent Auburndale.  Brogran Resch scored from third base on a hit by Anna Gosz for the lone run in the game, in the bottom of the 7th inning. Great job!  The team will play Edgar at home (Sunnyvale) this Friday.

GOLF TEAM COMPETED AT LAKE ARROWHEAD!
Newman has a young golf team this season with no seniors on the team.  Thursday, they traveled to a invitational at Lake Arrowhead.  The team defeated conference opponent Marathon at the meet.  Scores turned in were Jordan Knudtson 92, Treva Etten 95, Aaron Olson 108, and Nick Thoreson and Chloe Chapman with 112 each.  The varsity and junior varsity will compete at  Pine Valley this Friday.

TENNIS TEAM DROPS A CLOSE ONE!
The boys tennis team drop a 4-3 loss to D.C. Everest on Thursday.  The match came down to the wire.  Last week the tennis team defeated Wisconsin Rapids Assumption by a score of 7-0. Great job!

YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
A special thank you to the booster club, parents and alumni that helped make Cabin Fever a success this year! I am so impressed with the amount of volunteer hours that went into this important fundraiser.    I attended Cabin Fever and it was alot of fun and a fantastic social event.

POSITIVE FAN OF THE WEEK!
Paul Baumann is this weeks positive fan of the week!  Paul is constantly encouraging others to give their best in all that they do.  He is an outstanding Newman fan and I see him and his wife at all kinds of Newman Catholic events.  Paul was the technical supervisor at Cabin Fever.  His technical plan and expertise in construction and lighting was critical in making the set design for Cabin Fever.  What a fantastic job!  Working along side of him was enjoyable and rewarding.  He has a way of making others feel special whenever you're around him.  What a positive impact that he has on our youth as well as others.  Paul, you are the positive fan of the week!

GO FIGHTING CARDINALS!
