Some studies are available only to

Distinguished Lecture Series: Electrophysiological Signatures of Language Impairment in Autism Spectrum Disorders: Developmental Trajectory and Correlation with Clinical Indices 

Timothy Roberts, Ph.D.

In this lecture, Dr. Roberts will present cutting edge approaches to brain imaging in autism research. He will introduce novel technologies used in his lab, such as MEG for "brainwave scanning", and variations of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) for investigating the integrity of brain white matter and its underlying neurochemistry. The goal of this research is to use the differing sensitivities of these imaging and electrophysiologic techniques to understand the neurobiological basis of ASD. RSVP for this event >>

This workshop is for parents of young children newly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Topics will include an overview of ASD and accompanying conditions, available therapies and treatments and how to decide what interventions to pursue, and tips for supporting families living with ASD. Presenters will include specialists in developmental and behavioral pediatrics, speech and language issues, occupational therapy, and special education law. TIME magazine lists study by CAR researchers among its "Top 10 New Findings In Parenting" in 2011
In October, University of Pennsylvania Nursing Professor and CAR researcher, Jennifer Pinto-Martin, PhD, MPH, Regional Autism Center Director, Susan Levy, MD, and colleagues reported in Pediatrics that premature infants are five times more likely to have autism than children born at normal weight. As more children are diagnosed with autism, researchers are trying to find unrecognized cases of the disorder in adults. Respite Care May Be More Beneficial Than Autism Therapy 

A new study headed by David Mandell, ScD, Associate Director of the Center for Autism Research, found that temporary relief for caregivers goes a long way toward keeping kids and young adults with autism out of psychiatric hospitals. The findings, published this month in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, come from a study of records for over 28,000 kids with autism ages 5 to 21 who were enrolled in Medicaid in 2004. New technology out of the Robotics Research Lab at University of Southern California may help children with autism better understand social cues and emotional behavior. geneThe Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and BGI Announce Partnership and New Joint Genome Center to Target Pediatric Diseases
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and BGI, the world's largest genomics institute, announced in November that they have formed a partnership, BGI@CHOP, to conduct large-scale human genome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis at a newly established, state-of-the-art Joint Genome Center at Children's Hospital. The partnership will focus on the discovery of genes underpinning rare and common pediatric diseases using next-generation sequencing. Read article>>

Research Treatment Study for 5 to 21 Year Olds with ASD  

 

 

We are doing a research study to learn more about an investigational drug called Arbaclofen. We want to know if this drug helps to treat symptoms of autism spectrum disorders, including social withdrawal, listlessness, or inactivity. Learn more>>
