ABC News: EARLI Study Looks for Answers
The Early Autism Risk Longitudinal Investigation (EARLI) Study is featured on Philadelphia's 6ABC. Craig Newschaffer, PhD, of Drexel University's School of Public Health, leads the study, which looks at possible environmental and genetic links to autism by studying pregnant mothers of a child with ASD. The Center for Autism Research at CHOP is conducting all clinical assessments of the newborn children and siblings with ASD. CAR and Drexel have made it easy for families who participate in EARLI to also participate in the Infant Brain Imaging Study (IBIS), conducted by Sarah Paterson, PhD at CAR, by using many of the same tests and measures. 8:30 am to 3:00 pm A workshop for families with young children who are newly diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. This event is subsidized by the Bucks County Autism Support Coalition and will be held in Warrington, PA.

It will resume on Wednesday, September 15th when CAR welcomes Connie Kasari, PhD, who will present early intervention and treatment study findings. STUDY TO EXPLORE EARLY DEVELOPMENT (SEED)
The Study to Explore Early Development (SEED)is the largest national study on autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and developmental disabilities to date. Jennifer Pinto-Martin, PhD, leads the study, which aims to identify environmental and genetic risk factors of ASD. SEED is specifically studying children born between September 1, 2003 and August 31, 2005 who were born in and currently live in Chester, Montgomery or Philadelphia counties.
