The teachers at The Heritage School understand that these are difficult economic times. While they are always grateful for your gifts at Christmas and the end of the year, they certainly do not expect them. You are welcome to express a token of your appreciation this holiday season but please know that you are under no obligation to do so. The teachers are grateful for your commitment to the School. |

To enhance the fourth graders' study of matter, Ms. Gina Watkiss' CHAOS (Chemistry and Other Sciences) class invited the fourth graders to make "Oobleck" with them. "Oobleck" has characteristics of both a solid and a liquid, so it graphically illustrated two states of matter as the students explored some of its properties. Both groups of students benefited from their science interactions as the Upper School students shared their knowledge with their Lower School partners.

Service Learning Begins Early at Heritage
In a joint project between the Early Learning Center and the Key Club, Heritage packaged and delivered nearly 100 gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
This is an annual project between the two groups at Heritage. Each ELC student is asked to bring in items to that will fit in a shoe box, based on examples of items needed. Once all of the items are collected, the students divide them into gifts for boys, girls, or either. Next, the students help pack the boxes with a balance of items like toys, school supplies, and toiletries.
This project offers a great lesson for the ELC students to not only see how little some children get for Christmas, but also to use their critical thinking skills to decide what to put in the boxes that will give the recipients a variety of items. The Upper School Key Club students work with the younger boys and girls to pack the boxes and help teach them about Community Service.
Operation Christmas Child is the largest Christmas project in the world. The boxes go to children in more than 100 countries.

The Lower School collected 260 boxes of cornbread and two jars of applesauce for the Food Pantry in October! Pictured here are fourth grade students, H. Hatch, L. Clark, and P. Knight.
This month we will be collecting canned vegetables to add to the donations to Can-A-Thon. Please bring in your canned vegetables by Tuesday, November 22, for the Lower School assembly that morning. Thank you! |
Heritage Can-A-Thon Contributions
So far, the Heritage School has over 1150 cans - with more on the way - to contribute to the 28th Annual Can-A-Thon for the Coweta Community Food Pantry. The Can-A-Thon ends on Tuesday, November 29, with a day-long collection at the Court Square and in downtown Senoia. Upper School students from Heritage will be on hand in both locations and at the Food Pantry to help collect and sort cans from community members. All cans collected at next Tuesday's Lower School assembly will be added to our total contribution. Thank you for your generous contributions! |

Message from the Registrar

It is that time of year, when illnesses are on the rise, and routine appointments are more frequent. Both cause absences and tardies for our students. If your child is absent or tardy, please remember to contact the Registrar, Margaret Sanders, with an explanation for your child's absence.
Many of you are accustomed to communicating directly with teachers when your child is absent. This is a wonderful practice and we encourage it. Please be sure that the Registrar is also notified.
You may reach Margaret by email at msanders@heritagehawks.org or call her direct line: 678-423-5336. Our students' safety is our top concern. |
Pre-Kindergarten Field Trip |

The Heritage Pre-Kindergarten students took a field trip to McIntosh Reserve last week. They enjoyed a walk along the Chattahoochee, learned about a special tree called the Halloween Tree, and visited Council Bluff (pictured here).
