The French Club will have a "Red Out for Haiti," tomorrow (Friday, October 28) at the home football game, where students will collect money to send to the school with which Frank Marchman works in Haiti.
This was a great success last year, and our students had the opportunity to meet the director of the school, present him with a check for the money they raised, and hear first-hand how the money they collected helps people in Haiti.
Haiti is a French-speaking country still suffering from the effects of an earthquake. Mr. Marchman works with a school in Terre Rouge (Red Earth), which inspired the theme of the "Red" Out! Please wear your red to the game and bring a donation to help our students support those in need in Haiti!

Middle School Football Team is Dedicated, Focused, and Determined to Defend the MAC Championship Title | |
The Hawks Middle School football team will be battling cross-town rival, Trinity Christian School, this Saturday, October 29, at home at 7:00 pm for the 2011 MAC Championship. The Hawks are going into this game with an undefeated season, following an undefeated season and championship title last year.
Heritage defeated the Loganville Lions last Saturday 28-0 in the semi-finals, finishing the regular season as the number one seed. Trinity has only lost two games this season, one of which was against the Hawks. Trinity will be hungry for the win. Our Heritage families, friends, and other fans need to be a bigger presence than Trinity in supporting our hard-working Hawks. Please come out in full force on Saturday and support this determined and dedicated team.

Will Pattiz, Heritage class of 2009, is featured on the cover of the inaugural issue of For The Record, the magazine of the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business. A picture of Will and his brother, Jim, Heritage class of 2010, appears on the table of contents page, and Will's amazing entrepreneurial success is the focus of a two-page article titled "Epiphany in Room 763." Kindergarten Visit to Cochran Mills |
The Kindergarten class recently visited Cochran Mill Nature Center near Palmetto. They participated in three hands-on classes about reptiles, bats, and backyard habitats. The Kindergarten students have been studying all of those topics in the classroom, as well. They were able to hold a variety of reptiles, view bats in a cage, and make a bird feeder to take home for their backyards. Pictured here, the children are holding a Burmese Python named Marigold. |
Community Service Opportunity |
The Chattahoochee Hills area ( www.chatthillsga.us) is a rural community working on protecting and preserving its natural surroundings, including its waters that drain into the Upper Middle Chattahoochee. However, baseline data is needed on a large scale, and they are in need of your help! On Saturday, November 5, volunteers will gather to appreciate the local waterways and sample the water quality (chemical, bacteria, and possibly amphibian surveys) at over 30 sites while also conducting river cleanups. It will be a great time to see this beautiful area and meet the local folks who have many stories to share about the river. After the morning adventures, volunteers are invited to return to base camp (Cochran Mill Nature Center) for homemade chili and good music. Families are welcome. See this flyer for more information. |

The reading unit in Ms. Ruth's second grade class this month has been "Sharing Stories." The students decided to ask Miss Jo if they could share some of their favorite stories with the younger students. They practiced reading books to each other in the classroom during partner reading time, then went to the library to read to the Pre-K students.
Ms. Ruth says this "is definitely something that we plan to keep doing during the school year to become confident, fluent, expressive readers. It is a wonderful learning experience for both groups."
Next, they intend to read a book and plan an activity to go along with the book. They want to keep sharing their love of reading!
