First Grader Sells Lemonade for Tornado Relief
Heritage first grader, Belle Moody, set up a lemonade stand and collected $300, plus toys and canned goods, to contribute to tornado victims.
Belle's mother, JJ Moody, says Belle has been wanting to have a lemonade stand for some time. They discussed the recent storm and the fact that some people lost all of their belongings. Belle decided she wanted to help those people by donating the proceeds of her lemonade stand. Belle's many customers were generous, not only purchasing her refreshments, but also dropping off relief items. Belle brought those items to the tornado relief trailer at Heritage and contributed a $300 check.
When asked about her efforts, Belle said, "It was fun! I loved it!" |

Middle School Boys' Baseball Team is Champion of the MAC
By Real World Writing students Donald Breyne (sophomore), Mary Grace Gillmann (senior), and Kaitlin Pepper (junior)
After a season of 16 wins and only a single loss, the Heritage Middle School baseball team played their final game in Loganville on Tuesday, May 10. They devastated Loganville Christian School with a score of 5-1. The Heritage Middle School boys are now the champions of the MAC (Metro Atlanta Christian) region!
In an interview with several eighth grade players, first baseman, Trevor Henson, said: "They [team coaches Reese Barnett, Bart Henson, and Rusty Evans] coached us well and are a big part of our winning season."
"With 22 players, we are grateful that we can have three coaches that can work with us all," commented shortstop, Harrison Holland.
"We have a strong defense and that has helped us with most of our games," commented left fielder, Parker Jones, "They were the best team we've played against all year."
"We've played some difficult games but we have been working really well together and that has helped a lot," added Henson.
Pitcher, Luke Smith, added: "This was definitely the hardest game we've played all year. It's [especially] great that that win gave us the championship."
The Middle School has now accomplished a "triple crown" in sports with a MAC championship in football and baseball, and an undefeated basketball season. Congratulations to the players and coaches!

Middle School Football Team in Spring Training
By Real World Writing students Corey Roberts (junior), Neil Kirkland (junior), and Tripp Brown (8th grade)
The Heritage Middle School football team has officially begun their spring and summer training. Spring practice is being held during the weeks of May 9 and 16. Players will attend summer camp, which will take place during July in Franklin, Georgia.
In June, players will be divided into two groups and each group will practice two days per week through August. One of the groups will contain the running backs and quarterbacks. The other group will contain the linemen and the other players.
The first test for our Middle School Hawks team will be on August 18, which will be their first scrimmage. When asked about his expectations for the season, Head Coach Drew Henderson remarked: "[I want] all of the players to have a good attitude and if they do this, I think that the team will do well this year. [We plan] to be playing for the [MAC] championship."
Last year's team went undefeated in region playoffs en route to the MAC championship.

First Graders Construct Box City
Over the past few months, the first graders enjoyed several field trips to Peachtree City and Newnan, learning about the facilites and services required or helpful to support a city.
To culminate their unit on cities, the students created a "box city" of their own. They worked together to make decisions on what buildings they would need in their community, decorated boxes to "construct" those buildings, and joined them togeher with roads, parking lots, and green space.
Their box city includes such necessary facilities as a fire station, police station, water treatment department, power plant, hospital, school, City Hall, court house, and a residential area, as well as a bank, a church, Publix, a pool, a movie theater, Best Buy, Home Depot, Gold's Gym, Sprayberry's, and the requisite Starbucks!

Heritage Students to Visit Paris, the Alps, and the Riviera next Spring!

The French Department is excited to offer a trip to France and Switzerland next Spring. Departing March 28 and returning on April 6, 2012, students will spend the first three days in Paris, where, in addition to visiting popular tourist sites, students will go to an "'Ecole Boulangerie," where they will learn to bake bread in the traditional French style. They will also dine at "58 Tour Eiffel, " a restaurant located in the Eiffel Tower.
From Paris, students will head to Geneva, Switzerland, and then back to Chamonix, France, in the Alps. In Chamonix, they will compete in a scavenger hunt to learn more about the culture of this alpine town.
From Chamonix, the students will head to the Riviera, visiting Nice and its beaches and the beautiful town of Eze. They will also visit the famous Fragonard perfume factory where they will be able to create a custom perfume scent.
