Heritage Fund Update

Our Heritage Fund participation among current families has grown to 40%!

The chart shown below is new this week.; it shows the 2010-2011 Heritage Fund participation by grade compared to last year's 2009-2010 Heritage Fund participation.  Wow! The School is so grateful for our parents' increased participation this year!  Congratulations, again, to the fifth grade, for breaking the 70% barrier and leading the race to 100%.

The Heritage Board of Trustees, as well as the Faculty and staff, have now reached their 100% participation goal, helping to put Heritage in a strong position to receive foundation grants.  As our parents draw closer to their 100% goal, our grant chances will become even stronger.

Besides increasing our grant opportunities, the Heritage Fund allows the School to keep tuition raises to a bare minimum.  If you have not yet contributed to the Heritage Fund, please consider making a gift at a level you consider appropriate for your family. Remember that foundations look at participation, not amount!  Any amount is appreciated.

Early Heritage LogoPerhaps you have been tracking the parent Heritage Fund participation growth on our beautiful Heritage Fund sign as you drive onto campus each day.  If you have been around Heritage for a while, you may recognize that tree as part of an early Heritage logo.  Remember that logo, including a tree with two children reading beneath it?  Many thanks to David Boyd for creating this sign to remind us of our "roots" at Heritage.  After forty years, our campus remains beautiful.  Heritage has more to offer our students than ever before, yet it retains its small class sizes and intimate atmosphere.  We have much to be thankful for.

The responsibility for the next generation is with us.  Help us reach our goal of 100% parent participation! Make your gift online now, or contact the front office at 770-253-9898 for a Heritage Fund gift form.

On behalf of the students who benefit from your generosity, thank you for your support.

Did April Taxes Give You the Blues?

GOAL Logo

For your 2011 taxes, YOU can decide how a portion of your state tax dollars are spent!

  • Send all of your taxes to the State of Georgia
    OR
  • Send a portion of your taxes to THE HERITAGE SCHOOL

A 2008 law allows Georgia taxpayers the option to redirect a portion of their state income tax dollars to support need-based financial aid for new private school students.  Additionally, you may be able to claim this amount as a federal income tax deduction.

Julie Boyd is approaching the end of her limited-term service in support of The Heritage School's SSO program.  Contact her today (678-423-5337 or jboyd@heritagehawks.org) for assistance in completing and notarizing the forms.  She is in the office Wednesdays through Fridays through May 27.  (After this date, please contact Amy Riley for assistance in donating to the program.)

Don't forget that there is a state cap on this program, and donations are flooding in this year at twice the rate of previous years!  Don't miss out on this opportunity to redirect tax dollars that you are already spending to The Heritage School!

Fifth Grade S.A.F.E Graduation

On Wednesday,  fifth grade students graduated from the S.A.F.E. program. This twelve-week program, led by Lt. Stephen Crook, taught students the importance of staying drug, alcohol, and violence free.   Students also learned about internet safety and the dangers of peer pressure.  Each year, students write an essay pledging their commitment to stay drug and alcohol free.  Lt. Crook and his staff choose two essays that they believe best represent the S.A.F.E program.  This year's winners were Jenna Bridges and Mitchell NeSmith.  Both students were presented with medals for their achievement and were asked to read their essays at the graduation ceremony.  This year's Leadership Awards were presented to Allie Browning and Ean Lawrence.  This prestigious award went to two students who showed hard work and dedication throughout the entire program.  The teachers would like to thank Lt. Crook, Ms. Griffith, and the parents for their support.

Heritage Students to Visit Paris, the Alps, and the Riviera next Spring!

Heritage Garden Growing!

Andy's Nursery Donated PlantsThanks to an extremely generous donation from Andy's Nursery, coupled with the hard work from Co-Presidents Hannah Smith and Kaitlin Pepper, the Garden Club has successfully installed its vegetable, herb, and perennial garden.  Andy's Nursery's truck pulled up at the school loaded with all the plants the Garden Club requested.  Students continue to water, monitor, mulch, and stake the plants that are growing beautifully beside the Lower School playground.  The Garden Club members are excited to continue to watch it grow and are looking forward to the harvest time this summer.  Come take a look!  We are growing tomatoes, blueberries, peppers, squash, eggplant, cucumbers, and zucchini, alongside mint, basil and rosemary.
