"Thank You for Keeping Me Safe"
The Heritage Kindergarten students have been regularly sending handmade cards to Dr. John Raheb, a captain and surgeon in the US Navy, currently serving in Afghanistan.  "Dr. John" is a friend of the family of Kindergartner, Callie Mitchell.  The students have gotten so much out of this project.  Dr. John is pictured here with their cards, posted on the wall of the hospital.  The cards read, "Thank you for keeping me safe."

Heritage Fund Update

Our Heritage Fund participation among current families has grown to 37%.  Notice, in the graph below, the exciting growth in participation by grade over the past month. Thank you for your generous and positive response to our Heritage Fund campaign. If you have not yet given, make your gift online now, or contact the front office at 770-253-9898, for a Heritage Fund gift form.

Please take a moment to watch a video during which the three founding families of the Heritage School reminisce about the establishment and early history of our school.  Their passion for Heritage is evident.  We are all the lucky recipients of their vision, hard work, and dedication.

The responsibility for the next generation is with us.  In order to receive foundation grants, Heritage needs high parent participation in the Heritage Fund.  Foundations look at participation, not dollar amount, so any amount is appreciated!  Our goal is for 100% of our families to donate to the Heritage Fund by the end of the fiscal year, June 30.  In some grades, we only need a few more families to contribute in order to reach that 100% goal!

Congratulations to the fifth grade families, who, at 67% participation, have taken the lead from the pre-kindergarten class.  The first class to reach 100% wins a pizza party.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week

Heritage logo

The Heritage School faculty and staff would like to express sincere thanks to the Parents' Club for their generosity during Faculty/Staff Appreciation Week.  The daily treats in the teachers' lounge were delicious and yesterday's lunch was amazing!  The Heritage School is grateful for all that you do, not just this week, but throughout the year, to help make Heritage a unique, wonderful school.

Celebrating Earth Day

Georgia Power teaches first graders about recyclingGeorgia Power visited the first grade this week, to teach the boys and girls about recycling and keeping our earth clean.  The students participated in a "Recycling Easter Egg Hunt."  Cards with pictures of different kinds of trash were hidden around the courtyard.  The children had to find them and put them in the correct recycling bin. Georgia Power gave each child a t-shirt, gardening gloves for picking up trash, and a recycling bag, among other goodies.  The children had a great time learning about recycling!

Meanwhile, the fifth and sixth graders have had a chance to think about their habits and gain an understanding of the amount of trash they generate by collecting their household recycling. They are pictured below, enjoying a beautiful day in the green grass, with the sixth grade's recycling, formed into a recycling symbol!  This project has taught them to consider what they throw away and take an extra moment to recycle.

Heritage Second Grade French Students Earn Superior Rankings

Second grade French students earn superior rankings

Heritage second grade French students, David Browning, John Cummins, Simran Khutliwala, Andrew Rich, Sophia Grace Stemberger, Jameson Truitt, and Sofie Wiering, competed in the Foreign Language Association of Georgia (FLAG) Spoken Language contest on April 16.  All elementary school foreign language programs in the Atlanta area were invited to participate. Students were judged by FLAG members according to how well they performed in a song, vocabulary recognition, and a personal interview.  We congratulate our students for attending the contest and for each earning a "Superior," the highest possible rating! Way to go!
