Remember to visit the Coweta's Dancing Stars website to vote for your favorite dancer and help raise funds for the Community Welcome House. Heritage would love to see the Best Dancer or People's Choice awards go to Rosalyn Boyd, former faculty member, or Jessica Griffith, daughter-in-law of our Head of School! |

The Kindergarten students recently went on a field trip to Pick and Dey Parks' home to see Pick's extensive collection of Indian artifacts. Here, they admire a family "crazy quilt" with Dey.

Parent Annual Giving Update
| |
Our Heritage Fund participation among current families has grown to 33%!
Heritage is currently seeking foundation grants. Foundations are more apt to contribute when constituents demonstrate a strong commitment to the School in the form of high participation in annual giving. Foundations look at participation, not amount, so any amount is appreciated! Our goal is for 100% of our families to donate to the Heritage Fund by the end of the fiscal year, June 30. If you have not yet given, make your gift online now, or contact the front office at 770-253-9898, for a Heritage Fund gift form.
As you drive onto campus, keep your eye on the Heritage Fund tree sign. More and more of it will be painted green each week as more families contribute to the Fund.
Congratulations to the Pre-K class, with the highest percentage of participation to date (64%), and to the first grade, who is close behind at 57%! The first class to reach 100% wins a pizza party.

Heritage Teacher Asked to Speak at CEC

Heritage Instrumental Music teacher, Doug Kees, visited the CEC this week to speak to Dr. Lyn Schenbeck's music classes (String Techniques and Commercial Vocal Styles) about careers in music. This was his second time speaking to Dr. Schenbeck's students this year.
Doug stressed the importance of personal character in the professional music world, pointing out that people would rather hire a lesser player who is punctual and well-mannered than a stronger player who is less reliable. He also discussed the importance of being well-versed in many musical styles in order to gain the maximum number of opportunities at performance, as well as the necessity of a college degree in seeking employment. Doug played a few songs to demonstrate different guitar styles. He also explained and demonstrated improvisation, even enlisting one of the students from the audience to improvise.
After speaking with the students, Doug met with Mark Whitlock, CEO of the CEC, to discuss ways to augment the music program there.

Heritage French Students Dominate FLAG Contest

Heritage French 1, 2, 3, and 4/AP, students recently dominated in the Foreign Language Association of Georgia (FLAG) Spoken Language Contest at Tucker High School. Six of our eight students received Superior, the highest rating possible, and the other two were rated Excellent, the second highest rating possible.
This is a big accomplishment because the students have to go in a room by themselves with a judge and be interviewed in French for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, they are rated based on the quality of their French, their grammar, and the complexity of the vocabulary they use.
This was the largest FLAG competition ever, with over 600 public and private schools students from all over Georgia participating. We are proud of Kelly Abrams, Natalie Bunch, Madison Green, Laura Perdomo, Seth Stewart, Hannah Godwin, Riley Faircloth, and George McGreggor for their hard work and outstanding accomplishments!

| | Memories from Ebeneezer! |
The fifth grade recently took an Interim trip to the New Ebeneezer Retreat Center in Rincon, Georgia, just outside of Savannah. They learned about the first settlers to Georgia, beach ecology, and archery. They visited the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum, which tied in nicely with the unit they just finished on World War II, and studied archaeology, which leads into an archaeology unit they are starting soon. The students also developed team-building and leadership skills. This is a wonderful trip that the past 12 Heritage fifth grade students have taken! Many thanks to teachers Suzanne Markel and J.P. Weaver and parent Julie Lawrence for chaperoning the trip.
Enjoy a slideshow from their trip! |
