Heritage Hires New Football Coach
The Heritage School is pleased to announce the hiring of a new head football coach. Kevin Prisant, currently offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Randolph Southern, will lead the Hawks' football program as they enter their sixth season.
Coach Prisant has been coaching for eight years, starting his coaching career as an assistant, then later as Wide Receiver/Defensive coach and Co-Offensive Coordinator at Bulloch Academy while he was still in college. Bulloch's coach, Clint Morgan, is one of the very best in the GISA, with a record of 72-45-1, and seven trips to the GISA state playoffs. "He's kind of my father in coaching," said Prisant of Morgan. "He's one of those guys who taught me the extra stuff that goes beyond just the x's and o's."
Beau Johnson, a coordinator at Southwest Georgia, helped introduce Coach Prisant to the benefits of weight training, which he considers essential to the development of the football program. He is a certified strength and conditioning trainer and will lead the weight training program at Heritage.
Coach Prisant earned his Master's in School Administration from the University of North Carolina. In addition to his strong coaching experience and weight training qualifications, he is well educated and has a wide range of teaching experience in a variety of grade levels and a number of subjects, from pre-algebra to senior economics. According to Judy Griffith, head of school, "He will be a full-time teacher and coach at Heritage. He is young, but is quite experienced for his years in both coaching and teaching, and Heritage looks forward to the enthusiasm and skill that he will bring to our program."

As we prepare to file our taxes for the 2010 year, we would like to remind families about the SSO program. You may have heard about Apogee/the SSO program, which allows you to allocate a portion of your Georgia taxes (that you are already paying) directly to The Heritage School. This is a dollar-for-dollar tax credit opportunity. Additionally, you may benefit from claiming the donation on your Federal taxes as a 501(c)3 charitable donation, making this program mutually beneficial for our school and you as a tax payer. Act now to take advantage of the 2011 tax program! Please help us spread the word - any Georgia tax payer can take advantage of the program.
You can read more about SSO here: http://www.heritagehawks.org/webpage/heritage/SUPPORT/giving.html. Or e-mail Julie Boyd at jboyd@heritagehawks.org.
Already taking advantage of this great program? Bills are being proposed now that may affect SSOs - proposals to both eliminate and expand the program. For details on the bills, a list of legislators on the Committee, and a simple guide on how to communicate with your legislator, go to www.GATaxCreditScholarship.com. Help us support this program by contacting your legislator and emphasizing the positive impact of this program on our school. A few minutes of your time can make a difference. |
Mitchell NeSmith to Compete in Statewide Auditions

Mitchell NeSmith, a fifth grade student at The Heritage School, has been selected by the Western Georgia Music Teachers Association to compete for top honors at statewide piano auditions, April 16, 2011, at Kennesaw State University.
Qualifying auditions took place March 5, at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, where Mitchell performed "Allegretto" by Reinagle, and "A Little Joke" by Kabalevsky. Performances were reviewed and scored by a professional judge, and Mitchell earned the highest rating of "Outstanding Performer." The judging criteria included accuracy of notes and rhythm, posture and appearance, interpretation and dynamics, pedaling and memorization.
Mitchell began studying piano four years ago, at the age of seven. He has participated in numerous recitals and festivals, but this is his first opportunity to compete among the best piano students from across Georgia.
Mitchell is a piano student of Ms. Mary Boyd of Musicology, located in Newnan, GA.

Creating "Oobleck" in the Lab
To celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, Ruth Kinsler's second graders joined the Physics class in the science lab to create Oobleck. Oobleck comes from the Dr. Seuss book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck. It is a non-Newtonion fluid (with properties of both solids and liquids at the same time), also known as a green, gooey mess! The students had a great time learning about the visco-elasticity of corn starch and left the lab with green hands!
