The Heritage School welcomed over 150 former students and faculty members to the first ever, all-inclusive Heritage Reunion this past weekend. All classes from 1975 to 2007 were invited to see the campus and enjoy dinner.
The Student Life Center, the site of the event, was transformed into a festive Mardi Gras party, with colorful masks, beads, and doubloons decorating the walls and tables. Besides enjoying an authentic Cajun dinner of crawfish, shrimp, gumbo, red beans and rice, king cake and bread pudding, reunion attendees had fun browsing through old Heritage yearbooks and newspaper scrapbooks, catching up with friends from the past, and dancing to the sounds of current faculty member, Doug Kees', band. Everyone had so much fun, Ms. Griffith nearly had to give out detentions to end the party at midnight!
Many thanks to alumna Holly Mitchell, who was not only instrumental in planning the event, but also made beautiful centerpieces, fellow alumna Lee McEachern, who crafted amazing, life-sized peacock topiaries, and current parent Karen Mansour, who catered the delicious meal.
The class of 1989, pictured below, had the most attendees, with 13 out of 26 graduates. If you missed it, we missed you, too, and hope to see you at a future event!

Haitian Priest Speaks to Heritage Students | |
| | Heritage Helps Haiti |
Much of Port-au-Prince remains in ruin, more than a year after a major earthquake hit Haiti, according to Jean Bruno, a Haitian Anglican priest who is the head of Bethlehem Ministry.
Heritage teacher, Frank Marchman, serves on the board of Bethlehem Ministry, and arranged for Pere Bruno to speak to Heritage students this week. Bethlehem Ministry has a school, Ecole St. Bartelemy, and a medical clinic at Terrier Rouge in northern Haiti. The ministry also sponsors an experimental jatropha project - encouraging Haitian farmers to grow jatropha, a plant that yields an oil that can be used for fuel and for cleaning substances.
Heritage students learned that Haiti is a nation of almost 10 million people who face environmental difficulties daily. The earthquake exacerbated already difficult problems. Pere Bruno talked about work being done to avoid the continued outbreaks of cholera and the need for scholarships for students at Ecole St. Bartelemy. A yearlong scholarship, providing books, uniforms, tuition, and a daily hot lunch, costs $200, and for an additional $25, a donor can provide healthcare through the medical clinic. Donations, marked "scholarship," can be sent to Bethlehem Ministry, 105 Rocky Road, Morganton, GA 30560.
Last year, Heritage 6th graders organized a massive fundraiser for Haiti. Learn more about that here.
