The Heritage Singers have been selected to perform in Disney World!  Groups are required to audition every year, and this is their third consecutive acceptance.  Congratulations!
Pike Nursery Rewards Program Update
The Play in the Dirt Program has gone electronic! Every time you shop at Pike Nursery, tell the cashier to credit The Heritage School Play in the Dirt account.  You are no longer required to save your receipts and turn them in at school. It is that simple! It's easy and it's free!  The School gets rewarded every time you shop.
Gina Watkiss Judges Robotics Competition
Science Department Chair, Gina Watkiss, was recently the Team Leader for the judging of Marketing Presentations in the South's BEST Robotics Championship.  Students travel from all over the country to compete in this national program.  Ms. Watkiss has judged this competition since 2004, and it is an honor to be invited back every year.

Pink Out TONIGHT!

Pink Out 2010 T-ShirtThe "Pink Out" game to raise money for the Sue Verner Jones Foundation will be held tonight against Calvary Christian. There will be three games: Junior Varsity at 4:30, Varsity Girls at 6:00, and Varsity Boys at 7:30. Heritage has already raised money selling pink t-shirts to faculty and students. (Expect to see a sea of pink in the stands tonight!) All money collected at the gate, plus any additional donations, will be given directly to the Foundation.  Last year's Pink Out was fantastic, and we hope to raise even more money tonight for this worthy cause.

The Sue Verner Jones Foundation supports Coweta County breast cancer victims and their families in need.  They provide services such as financial aid with unpaid hospital bills, childcare, and in-home nursing.

Don't forget to wear pink! A very limited number of t-shirts will be available at the door for purchase.

Congratulations Hawks!
School Life
December 2010 EventsHeritage has been bustling with activity!  Please enjoy a slideshow of recent events that have taken place on and off campus.
Featured images include scenes from Pre-K's Polar Express Day.  Coach Rineer, dressed as the conductor of the Polar Express, read the beloved Christmas story to the children.  He punched each of their tickets.  The students celebrated with hot chocoate, cookies, peppermints, and caramel-filled chocolates, while wearing their pajamas (just like the children in the story).

Also featured are pictures of Heritage Key Club volunteers at the Coweta Can-A-Thon.  The Heritage School donated a whopping 16,975 in cans and cash - including a $5,000 anonymous donation - to the Coweta Can-A-Thon Collection.  Key Club students worked tirelessly and efficiently in the rain all day on November 30 to receive and organize Can-A-Thon donations at the Food Pantry.  According to Food Pantry Director Derenda Rowe, "they were an awesome help."  Community Service is an important part of the Heritage experience, and we are grateful to the entire Heritage family for their enormous support of this year's Can-A-Thon.

Other pictures represent the Eighth Grade in last Sunday's downtown Newnan Christmas Parade, Pre-K Snow Day (when the Pre-K students visit "Miss" Gina's science lab to make snow), Breakfast with Santa, and a visit to the third grade by Mr. Frank Hall, who taught the students how to set up a teepee like the Sioux.

Enjoy the show!
Guest Speaker in AP Environmental
AP Environmental Guest SpeakerGina Watkiss, who teaches AP Environmental Science, typically brings in twelve guest speakers to her class every year. The latest guest, Leslie Piper (pictured at left), is the cousin of Heritage student Hannah Godwin (pictured right).  Ms. Piper graduated with Highest Distinction from the University of Virginia, where she received the Wallace-Poole Prize, recognizing her as the most outstanding graduating student in the Environmental Sciences Department.  At UVA, she conducted her own field research and used her data to develop a computer-based nitrogen budget model for a salt marsh on the western shore of Virginia.  She is currently researching the effects of development in Big Sky, Montana, on food webs within streams draining the area, focusing on the effects of nutrient loading from wastewater.  She talked to the class about her educational career in Environmental Science and her research.  It was a tremendous learning experience for the students who enjoyed hearing her perspective.
