| It is not often that a team at Heritage has three siblings on the same field each day. Cross Country at Heritage sees each practice day filled with MS and Varsity runners sharing time and space, making it possible for this to happen. This year in Cross Country three Powell sisters are all running for the first time together: Big sister Lydia is a senior and thus the "old timer." Ruthie, an 8th grader, is dominating her races in her second year of running. She is followed closely behind by sister Zofia; the "rookie" in seventh grade.
Running in the Powell family has some tradition at Heritage. Margaret Powell, daughter of Dr. Jack Powell, ran cross country and track at Heritage under Coach Marchman many years ago. Margaret was a state champion in track with records still in the GISA record book.
"When I see those sisters out there together, it just makes me break out into a great big smile and not because they are fine runners, but because of what I know is a time they will remember sharing all their lives."- Coach Frank Marchman |
