Seniors

Our thirty-eight seniors have received 122 college acceptances from highly regarded institutions such as Wake Forest, Vassar, Pratt Institute, Georgia Tech, Furman, Sewanee, Emory, Hampden-Sydney, Marquette, FSU, Carnegie-Mellon, Washington & Lee, Auburn, Georgia, and more! One third of the class was accepted to UGA, and 100% of our early-action (when it is harder to get in) applicants to Georgia Tech were accepted.  Twenty-six academic (merit-based) and two athletic scholarships totaling $1.1 million have been awarded to half of the senior class (nineteen students), and that does not even include HOPE scholarships.  100% of our seniors are planning to attend college next year.  This is such exciting news, and since the college acceptance season is still ongoing, we expect more good news in the coming weeks.  We are so proud of our senior class!

Which Came First?

Chicken Assembly

Every month, in order to inspire a common conversation, the entire lower school enjoys a book of the month.  The book is read and discussed in all the classrooms and is incorporated into specials programming - art, music, and library.

The book for March was Chicken Dance, by Tammi Sauer, an adorable barnyard parody of American Idol.  The book was celebrated in last week's assembly, where each class did their own version of the chicken dance, and the lower school students got a lesson on chickens and eggs from Livia Rhodes, a local poultry breeder!  Ms. Rhodes taught the students about poultry life cycles and brought baby chicks, turkeys, and ducks for the students to see.  They were enthralled!
Heritage Valedictorian and Salutatorian Named
Congratulations, Valedictorian Hadley Heindel and Salutatorian Drew Murray!  These students have maintained the highest and second highest grade point averages for their entire high school career.

ValedictorianIn addition to being academically focused, both students are involved with extracurricular activities. Hadley, who has been at Heritage for fourteen years, participated in the Governor's Honors program last summer, where he majored in social studies and minored in technology. He is an AP scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, a Heritage athlete (soccer and cross country), and an active volunteer in the community.  He plans to attend Wake Forest.

SalutatorianDrew has been at Heritage for four years, where he has been active in musicals and plays. He won second place in State for boy's solo this year, has participated in three one-act plays and four spring musicals. He is a member of the National Honor Society, president of the French Club, president of the Heritage Singers, and vice-president of the Heritage chapter of the International Thespian Society. He plans to attend Vassar and study Psychology.

We congratulate two of our esteemed seniors at Heritage!
French Spoken Language Competition

On Saturday, March 27, Heritage French students travelled to Miller Grove High School in Dekalb County to compete in the Spoken Language Competition sponsored by the Foreign Language Association of Georgia.  During the competition, students had a one on one interview with a judge in French and were evaluated on the quality of their speaking skills, their lack of hesitation in speaking French, their attempts to use complex grammatical structures for their level, and their vocabulary.

The judges score the students on a point system and, depending on their performance, they may attain the rankings of Notable, Excellent, or Superior.
All of the Heritage students scored in the Excellent or Superior categories - the highest possible!

The Faculty and Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Thursday, April 22, in the Media Center. We are looking for volunteers to cook a supplied recipe or designated item and drop off that morning. Please contact  Alexis Woodward if interested. Individual room mothers are looking for classroom coverage for the teachers; please contact yours if you can help out.

The first annual "Heritage Fun Run" will be held on September 10, 2010. It will be the Parents' Club first year taking over the event and we will need plenty of volunteers for passing out water cups to the children, marking laps on t-shirts, set up and take down help. 100% of the donations earned will stay here at the school, so we are very excited!  Please contact Loretta Johnston if you can help.

Don't forget the next Parent's Club meeting on Tuesday, April 13 at 8:40 am in the Media center. We will be electing officers for the 2010-2011 school year as well as finalizing our planning calendar.
