I just wanted to take a moment to say how wonderful it was to meet you all at Parenting Magazine's Mom Congress event in Washington, DC. I only wish I had had the chance to meet each and every one of you amazing women!
Since I did not have the chance to meet each one of you personally, I am writing to introduce you to MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids). I founded MASK, a Scottsdale, Arizona-based, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, in 2007 with a small group of dedicated mothers who recognized the need to consistently educate parents and children on rapidly changing issues. The MASK mission is to educate parents and children about the issues facing our youth and to empower children to make safe, healthy choices.
When MASK first began, we conducted semi-monthly meetings on a variety of topics aimed at informing parents and their children - everything from drugs and alcohol, to bullying, distracted driving, and Internet safety. We soon realized that in our time-deprived society, many people don't have time to schedule another commitment, so last year we made the decision to publish a quarterly magazine, which has since won an award as one of the "Hottest Launches of the Year" by min (a magazine industry newsletter).
MASK The Magazine addresses important topics that are current and relevant, and is formatted in easy- to-read, age-appropriate sections, from kindergarten to college. Through compelling stories, expert information and resourceful tips and suggestions, each issue highlights some of the challenges facing children and families today, and provides valuable, age-appropriate prevention tactics and conversation starters. Our goal is to encourage parents to have an ongoing dialog with their children - to engage, educate, and empower them to make smart decisions.
The magazine provides "teachable moments" which can enable parents to open the dialogue on tough issues with their children. MASK The Magazine is more than just an awareness and prevention magazine. We are about strengthening family connections - connections made at the dinner table, in the car, at the ball field, on vacation. Whether a child learns by reading a real-life story or by watching a video testimonial, MASK presents examples of students who were able to turn a negative experience into a lesson from which others can learn.
In an effort to reach as many families as possible with this important information, you can Join MASK for $24 a year and receive 4 issues of MASK The Magazine, be included in our monthly newsletters and be part of our community of information. MASK has also started to conduct school magazine fundraisers in which, for every $24 yearly subscription, MASK will donate $10 to the school's PTA or PTO. If you are interested in running a subscription fundraiser for your child's school, please contact me so that I may provide you with the necessary materials.
In the meantime, I invite you to visit the MASK website (maskmatters.org) to learn more about our organization and our mission.
Thank you for being part of such a memorable event in my life. I hope to connect with you soon.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Cabral Founder and Publisher
