SCOTTSDALE, AZ - On Wednesday, April 25th, MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) educated 35 parents at Mountain Trail Middle School (MTMS) in Phoenix, on several important issues including drug and alcohol trends, cyberbullying, and self-esteem. The presentation included real-life teen video testimonies from students with first-hand experience in these issues.
"We are so grateful to Mountain Trail Middle School Principal, Ian Deonise," said MASK co-founder and Marketing Director Michelle Cardini, "for getting behind our organization and for encouraging parents to attend this important presentation. The parents were engaged and shared ideas about what works for their families, which is what MASK is all about: coming together as a community of parents who engage, educate, and empower their children."
MASK provides "teachable moments," which enable parents to open the dialogue on tough issues with their children. Whether a child learns by reading a real-life story or by watching a video testimonial, MASK presents examples of students who were able to turn a negative experience into a lesson from which others can learn.
MASK offers free presentations in schools and throughout the community to educate students, administrators and parents. In addition, MASK's award-winning quarterly publication, MASK The Magazine, delivers parenting solutions for today's families and is available for purchase at all Barnes & Noble stores in Arizona as well as Changing Hands bookstore in Tempe, or at www.maskmatters.org.
